HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — An argument between two groups of people led to a child being shot in southeast Houston Sunday evening, according to Houston police.
Lt. Horelica of the Houston Police Department said that the shooting happened on Wenda Street near Cullen Boulevard in the parking lots of an apartment complex shortly after midnight.
Police said the two groups, both believed to consist of juveniles, got into an altercation. At one point, one of the teens allegedly pulled out a gun and began shooting. In the midst of gunfire, a 9-year-old girl who was outside with the group was hit.
The second group began running before opening fire against the others, who jumped into a dark-colored Jeep and fled the area, HPD said.
Officials did not say what the fight was about that led to shots ringing out. There were no other injuries reported.
HPD said the child was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
Police are asking anyone with information on the shooters’ whereabouts or details about the altercation to contact HPD Major Assaults or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
