4 dead after two-vehicle crash on Cordon Road NE in Salem

Four people are dead after a two-vehicle crash Sept. 20 on Cordon Road NE in Salem, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the crash near the 2400 block of Cordon Road NE just before 8 p.m.

Four people from one of the vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Two others from that vehicle were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.

The sheriff's office said people in the second vehicle were also taken from the scene for medical evaluation and treatment. The sheriff's office did not say how many people were in the second vehicle.

Cordon Road NE was expected to remain closed for several hours as personnel from the sheriff's office investigate.

The crash site is near Chavez Elementary School and the intersection with Sunnyview Road.

The sheriff's office is withholding the identities of the deceased pending notification of next-of-kin.
