From experience, I’ve discovered you’re either a statement earrings person or not. I’ve always understood the unwavering appeal of an everyday curated ear—that perfect balance of stylishly in-between stacked-up cuffs and simple, barely-there piercings aligns with my less-is-more approach to jewellery. From the beginning of the 2020s, statement jewellery has become almost impossible to ignore. With jewellery trends far slower than fashion, it’s safe to say, for the most part, the ‘80s are back. From cascading pearls that would make old Hollywood gasp to square shapes fit for the Queen, statement earrings of all iterations have been cropping up for some time. Brands like Lie Studios and Heaven Mayhem were founded on said ’80s motifs with a touch of modern elegance, but it wasn’t until the ever-popular Bottega Veneta’s Drop earrings debuted at autumn/winter 2022 runway that statement earrings truly stuck. Becoming widely popular, by 2023, it was a rarity to step outside without spotting someone (or several someones) rocking a pair or that of a replica.
