DC police say a man suspected of killing a woman and shooting a child in Northwest has been found dead. A 3-year-old boy reported missing has been safely.

WASHINGTON — A 3-year-old boy who disappeared after a deadly double shooting in Northwest DC has been found safe in Prince George’s County.

Police issued an Amber Alert for the child after they found the suspect, 35-year-old Stephon Jeter, dead in Southeast DC.

They began investigating after responding to a scene in the 4100 block of W Street just after 4:30 p.m.

One neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, told WUSA9 she heard the commotion.

“I heard screaming, which I thought was kids. Blood curdling. Young girl was there with blood coming down from her arm saying her stepdad had just shot her mom and she thinks she’s dead,” said one neighbor.

When the police arrived, they found the woman, who they suggested was in her 30s, dead. They also found a 12-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. An 8-year-old boy was also at the scene, but was unharmed.

Police could not confirm if the woman and man were married, but say they were the parents of the 3-year-old. Both children were the victim’s kids.

The shooting occurred at the intersection of 40th Place and W Street. Police say they believe this was a domestic incident.

Members of the Prince George’s County Police Department located Jeter’s car in the county. They attempted to stop him, but he continued into the District, where he crashed the car at the intersection of 30th and Nash Place.

When police approached his car, they found him dead with a self-inflected gun shot wound. The child was not inside the car at the time of the shooting.
