3 EE Smith football players killed, 1 critically injured in Fayetteville car crash

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — A single-car crash in Fayetteville on Wednesday night left three people dead and a fourth with life-threatening injuries.

It happened just before 7:25 p.m. in the 2700 block of Rosehill Road. When police officers arrived, they found that the vehicle had run off the road and hit a telephone pole. It came to rest down an embankment by a tree.

The one survivor was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill in critical condition. The other three people died at the scene, Fayetteville Police said. Those three were football players at E.E. Smith High School. Grief counselors will be on hand today at the school for anyone who needs it.

Rosehill Road was closed from Country Club Drive to Walstone Drive.

The Fayetteville Police Department said more information will be released as the investigation continues.
