A detention was caught on camera outside of the Philadelphia courthouse on Tuesday.
Immigrant rights activists claim that it was an ICE arrest.
NBC10’s Isabel Sanchez was there and witnessed the moment two people were taken into custody.
The details remained limited but what we saw was federal agents detaining two people as they left the Stout Justice Center on Filbert Street.
Some of the agents wore Drug Enforcement Administration vests while others appeared to be from the U.S. Marshals Office and some identified themselves as Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
There was no verbal exchange when the arrest happened.
Activists say this is consistent with other ICE detentions they have witnessed and recorded outside of this same courthouse in recent months.
“Every day, undocumented residents are funneled into deportation proceedings—often without lawyers who understand both immigration and criminal law. Without legal representation, their futures, freedom and families are at risk,” the Defender Association of Philadelphia said in a statement.
NBC10 has reached out to ICE for confirmation on whether this was their operation, but they have not responded.
