2 dead, 5 wounded in Northwest DC shooting

DC police say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. Sunday near 7th and P streets NW.

WASHINGTON — Two people were killed and five others were wounded in an early morning shooting in Northwest D.C. on Sunday.

DC Police responded to a call for a shooting around 3 a.m. near the intersection of 7th and P streets Northwest – near Springfield Baptist Church and the Kennedy Recreation Center. According to investigators, two people were pronounced dead on scene. Five other victims were transported to local hospitals. 

The conditions of the five victims are unknown, and police are still searching for a suspect. 

Police were looking for a man described as being Black, with an average build, wearing light-colored pants and a blue shirt. He was seeing running from the area south on 7th Street. Anyone who sees him should call 911.

Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll gave an update about the shooting from the scene. Carroll asked any witnesses who may have seen the shooting to come forward.

No other information has been released.
