17-year-old killed in Durham shooting, 1 of 5 people shot in span of hours

A 17-year-old boy died Tuesday night in a shooting in Durham, one of several people shot in a span of only a few hours.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded to a report of gunshots around 9:54 p.m. around the South Street area. When they arrived, the found the teenager and an adult woman with gunshot wounds.

EMS transported the victims to the hospital, where the teen died. The woman was treated non-life-threatening injuries.

This was the first of two deadly shootings in Durham on Tuesday. Less than two hours later, three men were shot in on West Club Boulevard. One of the men died and the other two were taken to the hospital with serious injuries

The investigation into the shooting on South Street is ongoing, and officers said the shooting was an isolated incident.

As of April 27, ten people under the age of 18 have been shot in Durham. After Tuesday’s shooting, that number now stands at 11.

In 2023, 35 people under the age of 18 were shot in Durham, according to durhamnc.gov.
