17-year-old boy shot, killed at Hampshire home identified: school officials

HAMPSHIRE, Ill. (WLS) — The teen boy shot and killed Saturday night in the west suburbs has been identified.

Community Unit School District 300 said Monday that Deegan Kirschke, 17, was killed.

“On behalf of the entire District 300 community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Deegan’s family and friends during this very difficult time. Hampshire High School is committed to supporting students and staff as they navigate this loss, and counseling services are available to provide care and support to those in need.” District 300 Superintendent Martina Smith said.

Hampshire police said officers responded to a report of a shooting inside a home in the 100-block of High Street around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Responding officers found a 17-year-old boy who had been shot. He died at the scene.

Police later arrested a suspect in connection to the death, 20-year-old Keyshaun D. Davis of Hampshire. He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the life or health of a child, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a FOID card and possession of ammunition without a FOID card.

Davis is being held in the Kane County Jail pending an initial court hearing, Hampshire police said.

Officials did not immediately provide any additional information about what led up to the boy’s death.

A GoFundMe has been created for funeral expenses.
