HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston police confirm a juvenile has been taken into custody, and two others are on the run after leading police on a chase in a stolen car.
The chase ended after police say officers rammed into the car at Willowbend and Sandpiper, near Fondren, in southwest Houston.
“16, 15, high schoolers. I want to say I saw an ID on one of them,” Murtaza Ahmed said.
Houston police confirm the officer performed the PIT maneuver, which means ramming into the back of a car, causing it to spin out, turn 180 degrees, and come to a stop.
Ahmed said the KIA then smashed into his car, which was parked on the street.
“They were speeding very fast, they caught up to them, caught the very end, and just hit them and then spun out of control to where I honestly thought they were going to come up my driveway and hit my car and into me, so I ran all the way up to the garage,” he said.
Police said two other juvenile suspects ran away.
SkyEye 13 captured officers searching for them at a nearby apartment complex, but police say they still haven’t been found.
“I was mad, they just hit my car. That’s what was going through my mind,” he said. “Once I noticed they were little girls, I was even more mad.”
Ahmed and other neighbors wonder if the crime was serious enough to justify the PIT maneuver in a busy neighborhood.
Police said the KIA was stolen, and if you look closely, you can see multiple wires around the steering column.
“Why would you commit to a PIT maneuver when there’s one, two, three, four, five, six, seven pedestrian cars?” Ahmed asked. “Wrong on top of wrong on top of wrong.”
