One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Johnston County on Monday afternoon.

The single-vehicle crash happened in the southbound lanes near Exit 87, close to Four Oaks.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers said a man was driving south when he ran off the right side of the road, struck a road sign and then collided with a large pine tree. The driver was ejected from the van and died at the scene.

Part of the road was closed for several hours.
