The shooting happened near the Eastover shopping center, no arrests have yet been made
WASHINGTON — One person is dead and another was injured after a shooting in Prince George’s County ─ just south of the Washington, D.C. border, the police department confirmed Wednesday.
Just after 2 p.m., Prince George’s County Police received a call about a shooting in the 5100 block of Indian Head Highway.
One of the victims died at the scene. The second, a teenager, was taken to an area hospital for help. Both victims were males, but no ages were given. Police say a third injured male left the scene before officers arrived.
The shooting happened near the Eastover shopping center, which has several businesses and fast food restaurants. That’s one block south of Southeast D.C.
One worker at a nearby business says she heard 8-10 shots while she and her coworkers ran for cover. Investigators marked 25 locations where shell casings were found.
Prince George’s County Interim State’s Attorney Tara Jackson said the investigation is ongoing to find the shooter.
“I am deeply troubled by the apparent reckless disregard of those who are using guns to hurt others,” Jackson said. “Violence will not be tolerated, and we will do everything possible, in partnership with our Police Departments, to hold those who are responsible accountable for their actions. Our families – your families – deserve to feel safe in their neighborhoods without fear of violence.”
No other details have been released at this time. This story will be updated.
