1 critically hurt, 3 burned in house fire in Freeport, Long Island

FREEPORT, Long Island (WABC) — A fire in Freeport, Long Island left one person in critical condition and three others with burns when they got trapped inside their apartment building.

The fire broke out inside the basement of the building on Jay Street causing damage to all three floors.

A man in his 50s was apparently trapped in a basement apartment bathroom and was pulled unconscious from the building.

He was described as being cardiac arrest and was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center.

Three others were said to have suffered burns.

Sixty people were displaced out of 14 apartments.

The Village of Freeport said that no smoke alarms were heard or located in the building.

The village’s Building’s Department will assess the damage to building and determine when occupants can return.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
