Everyoneâs talking about AIâand yes, it sparks everything from awe to âum, should I be concerned?â When my clients ask me as a dating coach/dating expert how AI can help their love lives, I say: itâs a tool, not a soulmate. Used right, though, itâs like having a nerdy-but-brilliant best friend who edits your texts and tells you which photo actually makes you look fun.
Hereâs how to use AI wisely (and avoid dating like a robot):
1. Donât let AI write your profile from scratch.
Dumping in keywords like âtravel, dogs, golfâ gives you a clichĂŠ salad. I once saw “golf” used as a metaphor for life ten times in one AI-written bio. My eye twitched.
2. Write it yourselfâthen polish with AI.
Once youâve written a profile, feed it to ChatGPT or Claude and say: âMake this fun and wittyâ or âtone: thoughtful, with a wink.â Use it like an editor, not a ghostwriter.
3. Message help? Use AI, but with caution.
Your original message might be boring. The AI rewrite might sound like itâs auditioning for SNL. The sweet spot is in between.
4. Skip AI photo captions.
No oneâs swiping because of âMe, living my best life at brunch.â And, don’t let AI “enhance” your photos—I had one client do this and I emailed her back and asked her what cartoon/animated film it was from—not helpful with your online branding.
5. Nervous dater? AI can help.
Ask for first-date topics based on their interests. Not perfect, but a solid icebreaker generator.
6. Choosing profile pics? Try AI.
Sites like HotPot.ai can rate your photos for likability. Sometimes surprisingly accurate.
Paste a sketchy profile into AI and ask if it sounds fake. Helpful if youâre unsureâthough I still trust my own red flag radar more. Mine has over 30 yearsâ experience.Â
Need a cute cafĂŠ halfway between West Hollywood and Irvine? AI to the rescue (and bonus points if it suggests parking tips).
9. Outfit advice? Surprisingly fun.
Tell AI your age, the venue, and the vibe. Results are hit-or-missâbut often entertaining and insightful.
10. The best and worst AI tools.
đ˘Â Use: ChatGPT, Grok
đĄÂ Meh: Claude (too poetic)
đ´Â Avoid: Rizz AI (cringe), Cupid Bot (just⌠no)
AI canât fall in love for youâbut it can help you show up as your best, most genuine self.
