Nigeria prevailed and Australia pulled it together so we have one host country still in the tournament! Japan dominated Spain, but those two were safe to move forward from their group from the start of their match.

[Quick look at the brackets slowly filling up]

Now today group D and E will figure out who advances to the knock out stage.

In D England is a good bet to move forward, since they lead the group with 6 points. However, if China (against England) AND Denmark (against Haiti) win with enough goals each, they could upset the group and send England home. Otherwise it’s mainly for China and Denmark to battle it out who gets to be second place in the group. Either wining while the other only has a draw or looses would secure them the second spot. Or either getting a draw while the other looses would also secure them the second place in the group. If both loose and Haiti scores enough goals, Haiti could upset and be the second team from group D to advance.

Group E is currently lead by the USA and Netherlands, both with 4 points. Netherlands are facing off against Vietnam, unless they loose and Portugal manages a draw or win with enough goals, I think they have good chances to advance. Portugal will put up a fight cause if they win they will reach the knock out stage, while sending the US women home. Team USA could be content with a tie to move to the next stage.
