Woman passes out at Hillsborough DMV

A person passed out Monday at the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles’ Hillsborough location.

EMS told the Orange County Sheriff’s Office they responded to the NCDMV parking lot at 1201 U.S. Highway 70 West around 11:30 a.m.

A spokesperson for the NCDMV said staff was alerted and called EMS immediately after a person fainted.

According to radio traffic, the person EMS assisted was an 86-year-old woman. Information about her condition was not available.

Long lines have been a problem at NCDMV locations across the state in the last year, but Marty Homan, a spokesperson for the DMV, said the woman was not believed to be in line a long time.

The NCDMV location’s senior examiner left around 11:15 a.m. on Monday and did not see the woman at that time, Homan said. The 911 call was placed before 11:30 a.m.

WRAL News on Tuesday spoke to people who said they were waiting in line at the Hillsborough NCDMV since 6:30 a.m. At 11 a.m., they said they had still not been seen.

In June, DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin updated state lawmakers on wait times, unfilled positions, efforts to protect customers from identity fraud and customer service amid lengthy delays for new licenses.
