Woman dies after being hit by car while crossing Chicago street

CHICAGO – A woman has died after being hit by a car while trying to cross a Hegewisch street Sunday afternoon.

Chicago police said just after 3:45 p.m., a 23-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet in the 13500 block of South Avenue O when he hit a 65-year-old woman who was trying to cross the street.

The woman was taken to University of Chicago Hospital where she died, according to investigators.

Police said the driver was cited for distracted driving.

The investigation remains ongoing.
