When Winning Isn’t the Only Thing – Philadelphia Sports Nation

St. Joe’s Field Hockey Isn’t Just Winning. The Team Is Winning Records.

By the numbers his season — the Saint Joseph’s University Field Hockey Team got a 7–0 win on Thursday capping a five-game winning streak and a 12–2 record. But it’s the record books where the Hawks are making another significant impact.

In a battle with Lock Haven in early October — the thirteen goals during that game were an Atlantic-10 record which ironically surpasses a record that was set by the University of Richmond in 2009. The 40-point game is the second-most in Division 1 history and the most in a D1 game this season. The team is setting records inside the program this season, too.

The Saint Joseph’s Field Hockey Program dates from 1975. Although mostly associated with native American tribes on the plains — modern field hockey does have its roots partially in a game that was played on North American soil long before colonial civilization called Shinny.

St. Joe’s (currently ranked sixth in the country) will play Drexel at Noon on Sunday, St. Louis on October 25, #10 Harvard and will end the season with LaSalle at home on November 1st.

The talent of this Hawks team may play well into the A10 Tournament. Winning games and setting records.
