COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KXRM) — Pikes Peak Regional Airshow is reminding the community to buy tickets for the Blue Angels performance before they completely sell out. They are also updating attendees on what they should know before the show starts on Saturday, Aug. 17.

For the first time, the Blue Angels will perform in Colorado Springs at the 2024 Pikes Peak Regional Airshow. Individuals will have the opportunity to see this performance for two days only on Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18.

  • The Blue Angels will headline the Pikes Peak Regional Air Show in August for the first time ever.
  • One of the Blue Angels stopped in Colorado Springs on Thursday afternoon as a sight visit for the Pikes Peak Regional Air Show.

If you have never been to an airshow before (or haven’t been in a while), the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow shared a few things you should keep in mind before, during and after the show.

Make sure to purchase tickets in advance before the Blue Angels perform, Saturday tickets are completely sold out and less than 2,500 general admission tickets are left for the Sunday performance.

Tickets can be bought online. There will be no on-site ticket sales.

Before the show, you may want to head in early. Traffic may be routed in different ways than navigation apps to accommodate the large volume of airshow visitors and closures. The show suggests following the signs and not using your GPS.

As for road closures, Powers Boulevard will be closed from Milton Proby to Fountain Boulevard for performers’ safety on:

  • Thursday, Aug. 15 from 2-4:45 p.m.
  • Friday, Aug. 16 from 1-3:45 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 17 from 1-3:45 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 18 from 1-3:45 p.m.

Those who are not attending the show will not be able to access the closed part of Powers during the listed times. They are advised to avoid the area and follow detours.

Pikes Peak Regional Airshow suggests getting pictures of the performing and exhibiting aircraft before the show. The “hot ramp” where the performing aircraft are parked is open from 8:30-10 a.m. and doesn’t reopen until approximately 3:30 p.m. when the airshow ends.

During the show, attendees must remember the show can be loud. Whether it’s a WWII warbird or the newest in technology, aircraft move lots of air and that means noise from engines.

“We strongly advise ear plugs for the children, and those sensitive to loud noises,” said a statement from the Blue Angels.

There will be a variety of items for sale at the show, including food and beverage vendors. Attendees can bring sunscreen, hats and whatever else they deem necessary for a day in the sun. Eventgoers should not bring umbrellas out of courtesy to others.

Other items that attendees should not bring include:

  • Weapons of any kind: Pocket knives, scissors, mace, and firearms
  • Drones or radio-controlled aircraft
  • Alcohol, illegal drugs
  • Glass containers
  • Bicycles, skateboards
  • Animals or pets
  • Umbrellas larger than a personal umbrella
  • Tents or canopies of any kind
  • Cooking equipment, including grills

After the show, attendees are invited to hang out and take time to visit the displays, which include rare vintage aircraft, warbirds and military vehicles. Attendees will also have the chance to see the latest in aviation technology.

The airshow will be held at the U.S. Army’s A/DACG facility located at 7250 Getting Heights, south of the Colorado Springs airport. Gates open at 8:30 a.m., and the opening act starts at 10:50 a.m., followed by a dozen shows before the Blue Angels close the show at 2 p.m.
