Years from now, someone might look at Chicago’s seasonal snowfall numbers and just notice the raw numbers. If we don’t see measurable snow at O’Hare Airport through Easter, Chicago will end March with 22.2 inches of snow since October. That’s an amount that’s nearly 15 inches below average, but let’s dive deeper into the numbers.
Peak snowfall this season
January had nine straight days with measurable snowfall and eleven days overall. The 16.1 inches that tallied up at O’Hare was nearly five inches above average. That’s where the region’s snowfall peaked.

December only had two days with measurable snow and those added up to just over an inch of accumulation. The other four months, over the six, had one-day snowfall totals—the measurable snow in October, November, February and so far in March, all happened on 1 day in each of the months. We could still see measurable snow into April, but if that happened the event would likely only last one day as well.
