West Meck HS graduate, co-captain of US women’s rugby team tackles 2024 Olympics

Naya Tapper and the U.S. women’s rugby team face off against Japan and Brazil in Sunday’s Sevens.
PARIS, France — Naya Tapper, who graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, takes on Japan and Brazil with the Team U.S.A. women’s rugby team on Sunday.
Tapper was an All-American track and field star at West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, but found rugby at the University of North Carolina, where she joined a club team on campus.
She joined the U.S. Women’s Sevens squad in 2016. Her rare combination of speed and power made her one of the best players in team history and landed her an Olympics debut in Tokyo.
She is the team’s co-captain in the 2024 Olympics, where they will face off against Japan and Brazil.
On Sunday, July 28, at 9:30 a.m. Team USA’s game and can be streamed on Peacock. The team will play again at 2 p.m. against Brazil.
