News from Wellington Water
Crews have been working all day to repair a burst drinking water pipe on the intersection of Hunter Street and Jervois Quay in central Wellington. It was reported about 7am.

Water was turned off to more than 100 CBD buildings. The affected area was 2-20 Victoria Street on both sides and 2-86 Jervois Quay on both sides (including Queens Wharf).

Post Office Square was also affected.

There was also a fair amount of debris that the crews were clearing.

Traffic northbound on Jervois Quay was reduced to one lane, and the entrance to Hunter Street from Jervois Quay was closed to traffic.

Crews were working hard to excavate the pipe to repair it but unfortunately this is going to take longer than expected. We now expect water to be back on early this evening.

UPDATE: 2.25pm People located in the following areas are likely to be impacted by the pipe repair and unable to access water: *2-20 Victoria Street (both sides) * 2-86 Jervois Quay (both sides), as well as in Queens Wharf. This repair will affect traffic flows close to the impacted area. We ask that people, where possible, avoid the area particularly during peak hour traffic.

UPDATE: 8.20pm. Water has now been restored to impacted people and businesses although work will continue on site tomorrow. We advise commuters to expect delays in the area tomorrow, and if possible, consider alternative routes.
