WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – February is American Heart Month a reminder for all to keep their health and weight in check. Experts we spoke with Tuesday night say weight loss from some injectables can cut the risk of heart problems.
At the ‘Wellness Drip’ Med Spa in West Springfield, they’ve noticed a surge in the popularity of drugs like Ozempic (Semaglutide) and Zepbound (Tirzepatide). Registered nurse at the spa and owner, Alyssa Mckenna explains that these drugs can ease the strain on the heart by reducing your BMI.
This as heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The number of people with type 2 diabetes rising, which can be fueled by obesity and other factors.
“I’ve seen a huge reduction in clients’ weight young to old that has only improved their physical performance and how they feel,” said McKenna. “So, in general, heart health it’s nothing but good.”
McKenna said the main side effects tend to be nausea and constipation, also adding anyone with thyroid tumors or a history of thyroid cancer should avoid these medications.
