I finally caved and bought the Air Essentials pants from Spanx that readers have been raving about… $138 for sweatpants seemed pricey, but people really like them, so I gave them a try.
Within seconds of pulling them on, though, I knew they’d be staying with me — the fabric is buttery soft, and I swear they look a lot more lux than sweatpants. Maybe it was just the angle of the mirror, but I also felt like they made me look about 10 lbs lighter. The petite size fit me perfectly (I’m 5’4″). The drape, the fabric, the fit… all chef’s kiss.
There are a bunch of pieces in the Air Essentials line, including jumpsuits, skirts, dresses, tops, more pants, and shorts.
You can get the pants at Nordstrom in black, white, and a lovely olive green that is also really tempting; they’re available in sizes XS-XL and SP-XLP. Over at Spanx you can get the pants in another 4 colors (gray, navy, “dark storm” blue and a brownish “smoke”) — and over there they also offer tall sizes and plus sizes (and petite plus and tall plus).
The fabric doesn’t feel especially lightweight to me, but they are billing them as great for summer on the Spanx homepage, and the description notes that the fabric has “optimal air flow and circulation for all-day comfort…” so I definitely think I’ll be working these into my summer outfits.
Spanx does have a number of Air Essentials pieces in their “workwear” collection on the site, including tie-waist wide leg pants and this super cute mini dress. (Know your office before wearing it to work if it’s as short on you as it is on the model.)
