Immutable Games has expanded the reach of its web3 digital trading card game, Gods Unchained, with its recent launch on the renowned Epic Games Store.

This expansion opens up the game to a massive audience of potential players, as the Epic Games Store boasts 230 million users, with 34.3 million daily active users as of 2022.

Initially released in June 2019, Gods Unchained offers a unique gameplay experience where players construct decks of collectible cards and battle against other players. Notably, each card is a non-fungible token (NFT) tradable on the game’s marketplace built on the Ethereum Layer-2 network called Immutable X.

By launching on the Epic Games Store, Gods Unchained aims to position itself alongside other popular digital Trading Card Games (TCG) such as Hearthstone, Legends of Runeterra, and Magic: The Gathering.

This move is seen as a significant milestone for the game, with Gods Unchained Executive Producer Daniel Paez expressing excitement about reaching a broader audience of traditional PC gamers and TCG enthusiasts.

In an interview with Decrypt’s GG gaming hub, Paez emphasized the importance of consolidated platforms, stating that players find comfort in platforms that ensure quality and reduce risks such as malware.

The road ahead

Alongside the launch on the Epic Games Store, Gods Unchained plans to make several improvements to enhance the user experience. One notable addition is introducing the “Sealed” game mode, a feature typically seen in mainstream trading card games. This mode allows players to participate in a gauntlet run until they either lose three times or win seven times, without the usual deckbuilding restrictions.

Furthermore, the game’s roadmap, shared in May, outlined upcoming plans for new game modes and a mobile launch. Additionally, Gods Unchained announced a content creator program aiming to support and empower creators by providing creative control, rewards, collaborative opportunities, and recognition for their work.

Looking ahead, Gods Unchained is set to expand its availability by launching on iOS and Android later this year. A successful Android testing period conducted by partner studio iLogos, which recorded 60,000 game sessions, has paved the way for the game’s mobile debut.
