WEATHER WATCH ALERT: When heavy rain & strong winds arrive

The WUSA9 Weather Watch Team is tracking a period of heavy rain & strong winds that will impact part of the weekend.
WASHINGTON — Before making plans this weekend, go ahead and check out our forecast.
Meteorologists say a Flood Watch has been issued for several counties across the DMV due to heavy rain.
The whole weekend isn’t expected to be washout though.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Heaviest rain 6 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday along I-95
- Flood Watch in-and-around the Beltway through Saturday afternoon
- Rain tapers off after 3 p.m.
- Winds pick up Saturday afternoon
- Gusts 25 – 40 mph
SATURDAY AT 12:00 A.M.
Showers will start to move into the region after 9:00 p.m. on Friday night.
SATURDAY AT 6:00 A.M.
Everyone will wake up to widespread rain Saturday morning. Plan on pockets of moderate to heavy rain.
SATURDAY AT 12:00 P.M.
The heaviest rain arrives by late Saturday morning and continues into the early afternoon. The current track of the storm keeps the heaviest rain along I-95.
SATURDAY AT 6:00 P.M.
Most of the showers will clear out by 3:00 p.m. and by Saturday evening skies will be clearing as wind picks up.
A Flood Watch has been issued for D.C., Fairfax, Arlington, Prince George’s County and part of Montgomery County through Saturday afternoon. This is where the heaviest rain is expected.
Take a few minutes before Friday night and clear out your gutters and any storm drains near your home to reduce the risk of any flooding.
The heaviest rain will be centered around the I-95 corridor and points east. Plan on a widespread 1 – 2″ of rain for areas east of I-81 with less rain closer to the mountains. Isolated totals over 2″ are certainly possible, especially along I-95.
Try and check out the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin before Saturday if you can! Once the trees hit peak bloom, rain and wind are the enemy. The heavy rain and gusty wind will likely bring down quite a few petals over the weekend.
If you can’t get out to the Tidal Basin before the weekend, shoot for early Sunday morning.
