Walmart Is Recalling Over 6,000 Pounds of Frozen Chicken Meals — Here’s What You Need to Know

Having a reliable frozen dinner option that you can heat up at a moment’s notice is always helpful on busy weeknights (and even more so during the bustling holiday season!). But if you purchased that frozen meal at Walmart, you might want to check your freezer — especially if you have a shrimp allergy.  

InnovAsian has recalled more than 6,000 pounds of its ready-to-eat Crispy Chicken with Almonds entrée. Found with the frozen foods at Walmart grocery stores across 28 states, the item was discovered by a consumer to have been mislabeled by omission, not noting on the package that the dish contains shrimp. Thankfully — although shellfish allergies (which encompasses mollusks, clams, mussels, oysters, scallops, lobster, crabs, squid, octopus, and shrimp) are one of the most common food allergies — there have been no known illnesses associated with the recall to this point, according to a statement.

Due to this concern for potentially deadly allergic reactions, however, packages have been recalled at the highest Class I rating by the USDA, with the FDA stating: “A Class I recall in which a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The voluntary recall was placed on December 15, 2022, and the product is labeled as 18.5 ounce packages of “INNOVASIAN Crispy Chicken with Almonds ENTREE” with lot code 22321-1, UPC code 695119120499, and a best by date May 24, 2023.
