Vijay Varma reveals he was fired the only time he took up a role for money

In a recent interview, Vijay Varma openly discussed a pivotal moment in his career when financial constraints led him to accept a role that didn’t align with his artistic aspirations, ultimately leading to his dismissal from the project.

Reflecting on his past challenges, Varma emphasised that, for him, the role’s quality has always been a priority. Recalling a tough period, he revealed hitting a low point with a mere Rs 18 in his bank account. At that time, he received an offer for a small reporter’s role, a one-day job paying Rs 3000. Despite his reluctance for such a part, financial pressures led him to accept it. However, once on set, his lack of conviction was evident, affecting his performance and resulting in fumbling during the takes.

Complicating matters was the English dialogue, posing a challenge for Varma to portray an English reporter convincingly, ultimately leading to his dismissal from the project. “I had finished Monsoon Shootout by that time, so I had played a lead by then, but I went through that experience and I was crying on my way back,” he shared. After this incident that toook place in 2014, he resolved to never take up roles for money.

Recently, Vijay Varma made waves with his charismatic portrayal as a cop in Sujoy Ghosh’s Jaane Jaan, sharing screen space with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat. His upcoming projects include Afghaani Snow and Murder Mubarak.
