(FOX40.COM) — A sewage leak in El Dorado County on Sunday has caused concerns about water quality in some areas of Folsom Lake as an unknown amount of spillage entered the lake, according to the El Dorado Irrigation District.
The spill began at 9:30 p.m. at the Marina Village Sewer Force Main near the shoulder of Green Valley Road.
By 12:03 a.m. on Monday, responding irrigation district crews were able to repair the leak after isolating the main from operation and dewatering the line to conduct the repair.
Much of the leak was captured, but EID says that some of the spill ended up in Folsom Lake in the area of Browns Ravine.
“Crews will remain assigned until all affecting areas have returned to normal, including those areas nearest the repair as well as the Browns Ravine area of Folsom Reservoir,” EID wrote in a news release.
El Dorado County Environmental Health Division, Regional Water Quality Control Board, the Bureau of Reclamation and State Parks have been notified of the spill.
At noon on Monday, the damaged section was replaced and by 3 p.m. the pipeline was back in service.
