Two firearms, ammunition and marijuana seized during police exercise – Medical Marijuana Program Connection

Two people were arrested and firearms and a quantity of marijuana seized during a police exercise in the Pinto and Arima districts yesterday.

Police executed four search warrants in the Pinto and Arima Station districts yesterday between 9 am and 1 pm.  One suspect, 47, of Demerara Road, Pinto was arrested for Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, after the officers found and seized one Glock 19 pistol, magazine and 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition during the exercise.

Acting on information received, the officers searched an open abandoned lot in the vicinity of Omeara Road and Samaroo Village, where they discovered 1.57 kilograms of marijuana.

The exercise was coordinated by ACP Subero, Snr Supt Francis, Supt Carthy, ASP Pitt, ASP Trumpet, Insp Jugmohan and Insp Mascall, spearheaded and supervised by Sgt Naitram, W/Cpl Thomas Moran and PC Durity, with officers from the Pinto Road Police Post, Police Canine Unit and Arima Municipal Task Force.

In an unrelated incident, around 8:50 pm yesterday, Ag Cpl Sandy, PC Persad, PC Pierre and PC Cumberbatch, of the Arima Municipal Police Task Force AMPTF, whilst on process duty in the Arima district, received information relative to a man in possession of a firearm, in the vicinity of a basketball court.
