Train collides with tractor-trailer near Charlotte airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A road was blocked in west Charlotte after a train collided with a tractor-trailer Tuesday afternoon. 

According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, in the 8600 block of Old Dowd Road near Interstate 485.

Firefighters said the tractor-trailer was stuck on the tracks when a Norfolk Southern train ran into it. The road was closed at the railroad crossing for several hours Tuesday into Wednesday.

N.C. Department of Transportation said it would reopen by 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Several fire department crews responded to the scene, including from Gaston County. No injuries were reported, and firefighters said there were no hazmat concerns.

The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal is investigating this accident.
