WASHINGTON — WHAT: Weather Watch Alert for strong to severe storms Monday. Threats include damaging wind, hail, and isolated tornadoes.
WHEN: Monday, Memorial Day. Strongest storms 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
IMPACTS: Impacts including moving outdoor plans indoors, power outages, falling trees, damage to property.
As many people are traveling or celebrating Memorial Day, severe thunderstorms are in the forecast in the DMV, that’s why the WUSA 9 Weather Team has issued a Weather Watch Alert. Showers are possible at any point on Monday, but stronger storms are most likely to occur between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Hazards include heavy rain, damaging wind gusts of 58 mph or stronger, hail, and an isolated tornado is possible, albeit the chance is low.
Monday Morning 6 a.m. – 11 a.m. – Isolated showers are possible. You may be able to squeeze in a few dry hours.
Monday Afternoon 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. – More showers and storm gradually begin to develop. Stronger storms are most likely between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. During those hours is when we are most likely to experience the worst weather.
Monday Evening and Night: 7 p.m. – Midnight The severe weather risk diminishes after 10 p.m., with showers and storms gradually moving to the east and ending.
