BURIEN, Wash. — Thousands of fathers and their families flocked to Burien Sunday to check out classic cars and unique rides you can only find at the annual Father’s Day car show.

“Let’s do it on Father’s Day because it’s the one day, ‘Dad gets to whatever he wants to do,'” said Debra George, executive director of Discover Burien, the non-profit that puts on the event every year.

“It’s a chance for me to hang out with one of my favorite people and to go do stuff that we like to do, which is go look at cool cars,” said Dale Puckett who attended the annual event with his son Logan and his stepfather Tom Shriver Sr.

“Walking with the grandson giving him a little knowledge on some of the cars,” Shriver Sr. said.

It’s knowledge these role models hope to pass on to the next generation.

“There’s no manual to tell you how to be a dad,” Shriver Sr. said. “You learn that yourself and I learned a lot from my dad who was a very wonderful person.”

The 23rd annual car show in the city featured more than 300 unique and vintage cars across a five-block span in the heart of Burien.

“You don’t see an unhappy person in this crowd,” George said. “We have something for everyone today.”

George is the mastermind behind this Father’s Day favorite despite not having a father. However, she said there’s a lot of father figures she’s met over the years.

“It’s so great to see so many families out here and still be a part of it,” George said. “This is my family, so I have a lot of fathers now.”

As another Father’s Day tradition wraps up, some fathers said the only gift they want is quality time.

“A lot of people don’t have a lot of time, but make time to spend with your kids and your family,” Shriver Sr. said.
