We all know someone who is a picky eater. Sometimes it’s a phase that they go through as a kid, and sometimes that phase carries into their adult life. From my point of view, there really is no room for judgment when it comes to picky eaters. We all know what we like and don’t like, and we live by that code every day of our lives. But when someone doesn’t like something that you think is amazing, it’s hard not to have a knee-jerk reaction to their taste preferences — especially when that preference is publicized online for millions to view and judge. And for one couple, that’s exactly what happened when they took to TikTok to share a video.
On April 25, Brianna Greenfield (@themamabrianna) posted a TikTok video of herself making nachos for her husband, Matt, while explaining that Matt didn’t eat the salmon she made him that night for dinner. In the video, Brianna can be seen grating a large block of cheese and preparing a pan of tortilla chips while text across the screen reads, “My husband didn’t eat the dinner I made, so let’s make him some nachos.” As Brianna continues to prepare the nachos, more text reads, “If I don’t feed him, he literally wont eat,” and “This used to irritate me, but now I just blame his mother for never making him try salmon.”
Brianna then brings the finished nachos over to her husband, who is cozied up on the couch under a blanket, and finishes the video with text reading, “Moral of the story: Always serve your kids allll the food, even if they say they don’t like it after the first time. Twenty-five years from now your child’s spouse will thank you.”
Needless to say, the clip went viral and gained over 40 million views with countless viewers weighing in with their two cents on the subject.
“The way you just served him in his blankie on the couch,” said one commenter, while another chimed in with, “Right!! That’s her adult child, not her partner in life’s challenges.”
Based on Brianna’s post history, anyone can see that both Brianna and Matt are in on the fun. And even though countless viewers have no knowledge of their relationship beyond the 60-second TikTok videos they deliver, Brianna told Today.com, “My husband and I are genuinely entertained by the whole thing at this point. Some of the rude comments are hilariously clever!”
She went on to explain how she had a feeling that the video would ruffle some features, but did not expect it to blow up like it did. “Sometimes I put sarcastic captions or exaggerate the story just for fun; it’s always interesting to see how people react to these 60- to 90-second videos, positive or negative,” Brianna pointed out.
The moral of the story here is that you cannot judge a book by its cover. The small peek that someone gives us into their personal life is just a snapshot. Jumping to conclusions and judging people for things we have nothing to do with is a slippery slope, and my question for those slipping down that slope would be, “Do you want that same lens turned on you?”
