space on Thursday. Following Pomeroy’s tragic death on July 13, the team agreed that it would have been in accordance with her wishes to continue with the plans for the restaurant and received her family’s approval. Pomeroy chose the name, which means “ladder” in French, in tribute to the Prince song of the same name, and the project serves light French bistro fare such as chicken schnitzel with chickpea panisse and rabbit pate. It will transition into a permanent restaurant early next year.

Imagine: You’re spending late summer swathed in breezy linen clothes in the south of France, sipping rosé in a lavender field while surrounded by friends. Even if you don’t have the spare cash to jet off to Provence at a moment’s notice to make this romantic vision a reality, you can at least play pretend with Olympia Provisions’ feast, which will be served at a communal table on the restaurant’s loading dock. Dine on a charcuterie spread, grand aioli (a bountiful meal of cold and hot seafood, potatoes, eggs, and vegetables, served with creamy aioli for dipping), and a traditional Provençal dessert, all complemented by a steady flow of blush-pink wine.

At this event hosted in partnership with Portland Fruit Tree Project and Urban Gleaners, neighbors all over Portland will cut down on food waste and foster community by sharing the bounties of their gardens, including fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and eggs, for free. They’ll heap their harvests on a table or in a box, and participants can find givers’ locations on an interactive map. Grab a cute basket, plot your path, and delight in gathering an abundance of backyard produce and connecting with neighbors.

You might think a sandy beach in the middle of the Central Eastside sounds like a dream, but 13 trucks full of sand (and the efforts of the hardworking organizers behind the Portland Night Market) made it a reality. With 19,000 square feet of concrete covered with four inches of sand, Portland Plage offers a no-cover tropical hangout for you, your friends, and your kids. There are little pools to take a dip in, cabanas for rent, and food and drink for purchase to keep you hydrated as you build a sandcastle by day or vibe out to DJs at night. One guest described it as “so cute and so silly”—you have through August 25 to see for yourself. SHANNON LUBETICH

The sandwich shop’s current “Chefwich” comes courtesy of Olympia Provisions founder and salumist Elias Cairo and is aptly dubbed the “B.L.R.T.” (a BLT with ribs): Olympia Provisions pasture-raised bacon, grilled and braised shredded spare ribs, heirloom tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, and double basil aioli on toasted sourdough. Proceeds will benefit the organization Friends of Family Farmers, which works to “promote and protect socially responsible agriculture in Oregon.”
