We are all looking for the secret ingredient of success. But I believe it is no secret and it’s been under our noses all this time. The foundation of success in life is good health. You might roll your eyes at this as it may sound like a bit of a cliche, I know, but it’s a cliche for a reason.

Let’s face it, life can be really tough sometimes. There’s going to work each day, taking care of family, keeping up with friends, paying endless bills, and a load of other things that can stress you out on a daily basis.

But when you’re healthy, you cope with it all much better and you’re more equipped to handle all of it. You have more energy, you’re more focused, and you’re generally in a better mood (positive mindset) and feel happier. And if you’re in a better mood, then the chances are the people around you are too.

In addition to this, you can have all the money, fame, and success in the world, but if you’re not healthy, it’s all meaningless. As the saying goes, “health is wealth,” and I’m not just talking about the financial kind.

So, if you’re not feeling your best, it’s definitely time to take control of your health. And I’m not just talking about eating more vegetables and going to the gym (although those are definitely important). No, I’m talking about taking a holistic approach to your health and well-being. Looking after yourself as a whole is much better than just focusing on one area. All aspects of our body, mind and soul are so closely integrated that I really don’t see any other way of doing it.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

Get Enough Sleep

It’s easy to neglect your sleep schedule when you’re busy or stressed, but it’s so important to make it a priority. Not only does sleep help you feel more rested and refreshed, but it’s also essential for your overall health. When you are sleeping is when your body can heal and rejuvenate itself.  Lack of sleep has been linked to a so many health problems, including obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Stay Hydrated

Your body is made up of roughly 60% water and uses it for many bodily functions. So, if you aren’t topping it up regularly then it makes sense that it won’t work properly right?

Drinking enough water is crucial for maintaining good health. It helps regulate body temperature, aids in digestion, and keeps your skin looking healthy. Plus, it can help prevent headaches, lack of focus and feeling tired.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet doesn’t mean you have to give up all your favourite foods. It just means you need to make sure you’re getting enough of the nutrients your body needs to function properly.

Focus on whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, foods that grow in the ground, and limit processed foods and products that contain refined sugar like cakes, sweets and biscuits.

Did you know that some doctors believe that sugar is more addictive than heroin and it also damages your blood vessels! So why would you intentionally put that stuff in your mouth??

Exercise Regularly

Loads of people, including me, bang on about this, but there is a reason for that. We care about you! We want you to be healthy and happy. I tell my kids, when they moan about going for a walk with me, “If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it!”.

Exercise is one of the key things you can do to create a solid foundation for success. Not only does it help you maintain a healthy weight, but it also reduces your risk of a number of health problems, including heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. And it doesn’t have to be anything too intense – even a 30-minute walk each day can make a huge difference.

Manage Stress

Stress is like a dangerous wolf hiding in the trees. You don’t know it’s there and it slowly creeps up then suddenly pounces. Sorry if that’s a bit scary but it is way more powerful and damaging than many people realize. Stress can take a toll on both your physical and mental health, so it’s important to find ways to manage it, or even better avoid it.

Whether it’s practicing yoga, meditation, or simply taking a few deep breaths, find something that helps you relax and make it a regular part of your routine.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “All of that sounds great in theory, but how am I supposed to actually do all of it with my busy life?” Trust me, I get it. Life is crazy especially if you have a family to look after, and it can be hard to prioritize your health when there are so many other things demanding your attention. But the key to building a strong foundation for success is to start small.

Maybe you can start by making sure you’re drinking enough water each day. Fill up a water bottle each morning and leave it on a place you will see regularly like in the kitchen or on your desk at work. Then take a quick swig each time you go past.

Or maybe you start by taking a 10-minute walk after lunch or dinner each night. Whatever it is, just start somewhere! Something is better than nothing!!

And don’t be too hard on yourself if you slip up – it happens to the best of us. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

Please remember that taking care of your health isn’t just about preventing disease or avoiding a heart attack. It’s about feeling on top form so you can be the best version of yourself. When you’re healthy, you have more energy to pursue your goals and passions, and you’re better equipped to handle whatever life throws your way.
