The Blessed Madonna Fulfills Decade-Long Dream With New Single, "We Still Believe"

A love letter to the underground, “We Still Believe” features the vocals of Chicago house music pioneer Jamie Principle.

If you believe in yourself and never give up, anything is possible.

That tenet rings true in the case of The Blessed Madonna, who recently fulfilled a decade-long dream after releasing a new single, “We Still Believe.” The soulful tune features the vocals of Chicago house music pioneer Jamie Principle and serves as a love letter to the underground.

“I wrote and recorded a version of this song alone in my attic over a decade ago,” The Blessed Madonna writes. “My fantasy was that someday Jamie Principle, arguably the first real writer in house music and my hero, would do the vocal. Years later, Jamie and I met and became beloved friends. He kindly agreed to do song I wrote for him and here we are.”

Upbeat, euphoric and full of funk, the acid-inspired “We Still Believe” oozes with Chicago house panache. The Blessed Madonna was able to foster a feeling of hopefulness with her ebullient production, especially in lockstep with Principle’s ageless vocals.

The lyrics explore the feeling of finding freedom on the dancefloor, as well as the strong sense of community that the underground provides: “It doesn’t matter about your color, your sexual identity—it’s just about being free,” croons a sultry Principle.
