The best shop for a tall woman – I am tall and I love it – Milsy Girl
[ad_1]
So, I am a 6 foot tall woman. That is tall for a woman, but I am proud of my height and I love it. Growing up I wasn’t particularly tall until I reached 11 years old. I then shot up and left all my class mates behind me. In all the school photos I could be seen on the back row with the older pupils. I was always chosen as goal shooter or goal attack for the netball team unsurprisingly. I felt awkward and lanky like a baby giraffe who was learning to walk.

Being the tall girl can be hard
I was never good at running however in my late teens, tennis became a sport I was quite good at because my arms were halfway across the court before my feet got there.
Until I hit the age of 18, I hated being tall but suddenly things changed. I was getting more attention from boys and my friends started saying things like “I wish I was tall like you”. I didn’t really understand what was happening at that point. But now I am an adult with 34″ legs and I look back and I get it. Being a tall woman is beautiful and can be gracefully elegant. Being a tall woman makes you stand out. Height can be useful to see over crowds. Being tall can be great however there are definitely some negatives.
What are the bad things about being a tall woman?
If I had a pound for every time someone said to me “Gosh, aren’t you tall!”, I would be a multimillionaire by now. Banging my head on things like low door frames or low hanging lights is something I am constantly doing. I can’t wear heels unless I am standing next to someone is 6’ 4 inches or more. The other day an elderly lady asked me to hand her an item from the top shelf. Normally I wouldn’t mind but it was incontinence pants, which was slightly awkward.
Most of this I can deal with but, the one issue that goes on and on is finding clothes that fit me. Standard clothe sizes do not fit. I cannot go into a regular clothes shop and buy something off the shelf. I have to shop from stores who offer a tall range or from a shop which specifically aims it’s clothes at tall women. Over the years I have tried many shops selling clothes for a tall woman but my favourite, and the one I keep coming back to, is Long Tall Sally.
What is Long Tall Sally?
Long Tall Sally was founded in 1976 as a company that offered clothing with sizes made for longer torsos, rises on trousers and long sleeve length blouses. It aimed it’s products at tall women who were 5’8” and over. In 2008 the company started to sell through catalogues and internet marketing in North America. The company grew but then took a dive and planned to wind down its trading in 2020. (I was literally gutted when I heard this.)
Then (to my great relief) in August 2020 the company was acquired by AK Retail of Peterborough in the UK.
Long Tall Sally is where I continue to buy most of my clothes and shoes, and I can highly recommend them to any lady over 5’8”.
Love yourself no matter how tall you are!
Please remember folks, it doesn’t matter how short or tall you are. You are perfect and unique. You should hold your head up and be proud of who you are. Love who you are, and the world will love you too.
