So, I’m on this self-care journey, and I soon recognized that I needed a more effective technique to stay on track. 

That’s when I stumbled upon the self-care checklist, and I’ll tell you what, it’s been a total game-changer for me. 

It’s helped me stay focused, motivated, and accountable for caring for myself like a boss.

For me, self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and face masks, although those things are part of it. 

It’s about taking care of every aspect of myself, from physical to emotional to spiritual. 

So, I whipped out my trusty bullet journal and created different sections for each category.

In the physical self-care section, I listed stuff like working out, eating nourishing meals, and getting enough sleep. 

‘Cause let’s face it, if I’m not feeling good physically, it’s hard to tackle everything else.

In the emotional self-care section, I focused on bullet journaling for self-care, practicing gratitude, and doing stuff that makes me happy and relaxed. 

These things help me process my emotions and feel more zen.

In the mental self-care section, I wrote down stuff like meditating, reading inspiring books, and doing puzzles. 

These things keep my brain sharp and my mind clear.

For social self-care, I included spending time with friends and family, connecting with people, and having meaningful conversations. 

(Because even though I’m an introvert, I still need people in my life.)

Lastly, in the spiritual self-care section.

I put down things like meditating (again, it’s important, people!), walking in nature, and thinking about my values and purpose. 

These things help me feel more connected to myself and the world.

So, there you have it—my self-care checklist. 

But remember, your list should be all about YOU. Take the time to determine your needs and what works best for you. 

And don’t be scared to experiment and mix things up.

When creating a self-care checklist, you can’t just scribble down a bunch of random stuff and call it a day.

For example, I find joy in practicing yoga.

It assists me in maintaining my physical fitness but also allows me to connect with my breath, release tension, and find inner peace.

For example, I prioritize having a colorful salad with mixed greens, vibrant vegetables, and a protein source like grilled chicken or chickpeas for a nourishing and satisfying meal.

  • Restful Sleep: Ensure you get sufficient sleep to rejuvenate your body and mind.

    Establish a bedtime routine, create a comfortable sleep environment, and aim for consistent sleep patterns.

For instance, I’m careful to wind down before bed by disconnecting from screens, practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing, and creating a cozy sleep environment with soft lighting and comfortable bedding.

B. Emotional Self-Care

Nurturing your emotional well-being is essential for maintaining inner balance and resilience. 

This is all about taking care of your feelings, y’all. 

Journaling, practicing gratitude, and indulging in activities that make you happy all fall under this category. 

‘Cause let’s be honest, sometimes we gotta work on our emotions just as much as we gotta work on our bodies.

Consider these activities:

  • Journaling and Reflection: Write down your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Reflect on your day, express gratitude, and explore your inner world.

For example, I find solace in journaling before bed. I pour out my thoughts, reflect on the day’s events, and jot down things I’m grateful for.

This practice helps me process my emotions and gain clarity.

  • Mindfulness and Meditation: Practice being present at the moment, cultivating mindfulness, and meditating to calm the mind and reduce stress.

For example, I dedicate a few minutes to silence and focus on my breath each morning.

This simple act of mindfulness helps me start the day with a clear and calm mindset.

  • Engaging in Hobbies: Dedicate time to activities that bring you joy, whether painting, playing a musical instrument, cooking, or gardening.

For example, I find immense pleasure in baking.

I set aside time on weekends to experiment with new recipes, and measuring ingredients, mixing them, and seeing the final delicious outcome is incredibly fulfilling.

C. Mental Self-Care

For instance, I regularly do read for at least 30 minutes daily.

I love immersing myself in fiction novels as they transport me to different worlds and allow me to unwind and escape the daily grind.

  • Learning Something New: Engage in activities that challenge your mind and encourage growth.

    It could be learning a musical instrument, a new language, or a creative skill like painting or photography.

For example, I recently started learning to play the guitar.

It’s a fulfilling and mentally stimulating endeavor that enables me to exercise my creativity and acquire a new skill.

Even though it can be challenging at times, the progress I see motivates me to keep going and embrace the learning process.*

  • Puzzles and Brain Teasers: Engage in activities that exercise your cognitive abilities and problem-solving skills, such as solving puzzles, crosswords, Sudoku, or playing strategy games.

For example, I enjoy solving Sudoku puzzles during my breaks.

It helps me sharpen my logical thinking and is a fun and engaging way to challenge myself mentally.

D. Social Self-Care

Nurturing your social connections and fostering meaningful relationships is essential to self-care. 

So, hit up your friends, have a deep convo with your bae, or volunteer at a local organization.

Consider these activities:

For instance, I’m careful to have a weekly family game night where we gather, play board games, and enjoy each other’s company.

It’s a beautiful way to strengthen our bond and create cherished moments.

  • Acts of Kindness: Engage in acts of kindness and service towards others. It could be volunteering for a cause you care about, helping a friend in need, or offering a listening ear.

For example, I actively look for opportunities to contribute to my community.

Whether participating in a local food drive or volunteering at a nearby shelter, these acts of kindness benefit others and fill my heart with joy and gratitude.
