It’s tempting to think that organizers can perform magic. Yes, some really will transform a neglected corner into a beacon of tidiness. But, no organizer will throw out the leftovers occupying your fridge (which you knew you were never going to eat in the first place). Most organizers still need a little bit of assistance in order to do their job. However, there are some that function so impressively and require such little from us that they create the illusion of having supernatural powers.
I came across one such device recently: this little floating rack for your kitchen sink. It attaches directly to your faucet and keeps your dishwashing essentials off of your counters so the space around your sink is free from clutter. That means your dish soap, brushes, and scrubbing pads are simultaneously within reach and out of the way. Sounds like magic to me.
This soap and sponge caddy holds itself up with a screw clamp that fits around any standard long-neck faucet. The screw cap and threading grip the faucet, and because they’re made of plastic, they won’t cause any scratches or damage — perfect for renters. You can install it facing either the left or right side, and it’s easy to reposition whenever you want. Installation takes less than a minute, because once you tighten the clamp, it’s ready to go. It has room to hold a small bottle of dish soap and one or two sponges, and a small hook at the end of the rack gives you a spot to hang a brush, too.
With this attached to your faucet, you no longer have to deal with soap scum building up around the base of your faucet or on the underside of your soap bottle or sponge caddy. That makes your kitchen sink area quicker to clean and helps it stay looking neater for longer, so you don’t have to wipe it down as often. As one Amazon reviewer pointed out, storing your dish sponge in an elevated wire rack allows it to dry faster as well, which helps keep it fresher.
While this organizer works great in the kitchen, it’s a natural fit for bathrooms, too, as long as you have the right kind of long-neck faucet. I would love to add it to my kitchen, as my cramped setup causes my hand soap bottle to fall over all the time. Plus, at just $10, this one tool is cheaper, smarter, and more durable than the ceramic dish I currently use to hold my sponge.
