Tesla lays off nearly 2,700 employees at Austin-area gigafactory

The local layoff figures are in keeping with CEO Elon Musk’s announcement last week that the company would lay off “more than” 10% of its global workforce of over 140,000. This is one of the largest — if not the largest — mass layoff that this city has ever seen.
