(KRON) — A man who was shot near Mission Dolores Park on Wednesday night has been identified as Luis Arguello Inglis, a 19-year-old San Jose State student. SJ State officials confirmed to KRON4 on Saturday that Inglis was enrolled and majoring in communications studies.

The victim’s parents made a GoFundMe for Inglis, stating the following:

“We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved son, Luis, was tragically taken from us on Wednesday night. Luis was a bright light in our lives, filled with love, laughter, and boundless potential,” the GoFundMe said.

The San Francisco Police Department said Inglis was found with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground near Mission Dolores Park on Wednesday night. Despite rendering aid to Inglis, the 19-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His loss has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled,” Inglis’ GoFundMe said, describing his loss as an “unimaginable pain.”

The GoFundMe was meant to cover unexpected costs related to his death. The page has since surpassed its $10,000 goal by over $15,000 as of this report.

District Eight Supervisor Rafael Mandelman said that Dolores Park has faced public safety challenges but is generally a safe place in the city. “We can’t live in fear, but people should be aware of their surroundings,” the supervisor said.

Mandelman told KRON that he has asked the San Francisco Police Department to increase its presence around the park. “When there’s been an incident like this, I think it’s appropriate for there to be more police in that area going forward over this summer,” Mandelman said.
