HUNTERSVILLE- Taylor Swift’s fan base is so big, when she launches a new project, it also means an opportunity for small businesses to cash in.
Swift has reached such megastar status across the globe, that when she announces a new project, it becomes a pop culture flashpoint and a business opportunity.
“We are big Swiftie’s,” says fan Paris Lopez, “so me and some of my friends came out. We’re excited that they’re making a big event out of it with jewelry and music and just a fun way to celebrate.”
Dozens of swifties gathered at the Ivory Barn in Huntersville to celebrate the star’s 11th studio album with music, food and local vendors. Owner Gayle Allen says as soon as Swift announced her new album, she knew she wanted to host an event.
“When the Grammys were on and Taylor Swift mentioned that she had a new album dropping, I thought we had to have something and what a great way to reach 20 somethings and spread the word about our venue,” said Allen.
Small businesses such as The Ivory Barn, Carolina DJ Pros, Honey Photo Booth Co, Moments by Dani, Bres Bar on Wheels, Bells Box Collective, and The Nomadic Jeweler Co. all took part in Friday’s event.
CNN reports that the album broke a record the day before it was even released. “The Tortured Poets Department” is now Spotify’s most pre-saved album in the music streaming platform’s history.
“I’m obsessed with it,” says fan Emily Allen. “I woke up this morning and listened to it on the way to work, at work and I listened to it at work, I had my AirPods. I asked if we could stream it over the speakers at work.”
Swift’s shows in North America alone could reportedly bring in more than $2 billion in revenue, making it the highest-grossing tour ever.
That financial impact, bolstered by an emotional connection the star’s fans have with her.
“I feel like she’s helped me through a lot of situations in life like relationships, and bonding moments with my friends. I feel like she inspires women to know that they can do anything,” says Emily.
The closest Taylor Swift will come to Charlotte in 2024 is indianapolis. Swift hasn’t stopped in the Queen City in almost ten years. Her fans are hoping to see our city as a surprise add-on for the leg of the North America tour. She most recently added Indianapolis, Miami, New Orleans, and Toranto, Ontario.
