(KRON) — The Target in East Palo Alto is closing its doors permanently next month, KRON4 has confirmed. It is not known what the exact date the store will close. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) report, the Target closure is effective Sept. 28.
Eighty-five employees at this Target will be laid off, according to the WARN report. The notice was sent out on Monday, July 29.
As of Sunday afternoon, Target has not provided a reason for its decision to shut down the East Palo Alto store.
The Target, located at 1775 E Bayshore Road, is a go-to store for many Stanford students as it is about three miles away. This location and the one in Mountain View are the two closest Targets to the campus.
3 arrested in alleged organized retail theft operation targeting Targets
Last fall, Target announced the closure of three Bay Area stores in San Francisco, Oakland and Pittsburg. The retail giant said organized retail crime at these stores was a reason for the closures.
KRON4 contacted Target for comment and more information about the East Palo Alto store closure. We did not hear back in time for publication.
