Pickles and Chico, what a pair! Their history has bonded them, so we feel it’s healthier for both to be adopted and kept together.
Pickles has lived his life on the streets with his homeless owner since he was very young. Chico came into the picture about a year ago when he was found and cared for by the duo. Their owner has had some issues over the years and Pickles has been a regular visitor to our shelter. He has actually gotten very comfortable here and has formed a strong bond with staff, always feeling safe and loved.
Pickles is up for any adventure. He loves a good hike, or a slow day at the park with endless belly rubs. Chico is a bit younger, full of energy and a new human will have to earn his trust (although it only takes a day or so and some yummy treats) he is less trusting than Pickles but comes around quickly and is lovely.
Their former owner cared for them and loved them and got them whatever they needed, so they come from a loving situation. Now they need a home. It will take some getting used to for them, as they lived in parks and such, but they are smart and will catch on to a good thing and a comfy couch to cuddle on. Could this street savvy fabulous, pair be what you’re looking for? They say “yes!”

You could not ask for a better dog! Willy Boy just wants to be with his human. He thrives on close, personal, contact with his handlers here at the shelter. Being Aussie and Border Collie, you may think that he would be more comfortable living outdoors and working, but Willy Boy was raised differently.
From what we have been told, he has been living with his owner, in her car for most of his 9 years. As you can imagine, he is conditioned to be a constant companion. His owner became sick and has gone to the hospital for long term care. She will be unable to take this sweet boy back.
We believe he is okay with other dogs, but a meet and greet with yours is a must. We are not sure how he is with children, so again, a meet and greet is needed there too. He has a wonderful disposition and just melts in your arms as you pet him.
Willy Boy is DEAF. We are guessing he hears about 10%, which isn’t much. It gives him the advantage of taking naps here at the shelter and not being able to hear his noisy neighbors. He is very smart and seems like he would adapt to a new home fairly quickly. He does need a patient human, however. He’s had a lot of changes in his life, lost someone who was his entire world, and ended up at the shelter, so there will be an adjustment/learning period needed. He is well taken care of here, but as with all animals, deserves to go to a loving home sooner than later. Please consider adopting this special boy, you won’t be sorry!

A volunteer took Lisbeth for a day hike and had this to say: “Lisbeth and I had a great morning. She’s great on the trail. One cannot confuse her excitement and kennel anxiety for her real self. Within 10 minutes on the trail she fell right into my stride and never pulled once. I also love the way she checks in throughout the walk, a really good listener. She had no reaction to bikes, dogs and our awesome Burbank sanitation department who all wanted to spend time with her. “
If you are looking for a sweet girl who knows her commands, lovely Lisbeth is the girl for you. Lisbeth knows sit, down, shake, and will even sit calmly while you put her leash on. She will bring you her toy and drop it at your feet after she has romped around the yard with it. At approximately 6 years old, she is the perfect combination of calm and fun!

Meet Porcupine/Bear. Why does he have 2 names? To be honest, we’re not sure -and really he looks more like a raccoon- but no matter- he’s big enough to fit both names!
This young Akita is very sweet and playful. We couldn’t bring out enough toys for his liking. Squeaky ball? Yes please! Chewy bone? You betcha! Crinkly stuffy? Heck yeah! PB was up for all of it! Also a pretty big fan of getting scratches and ear tugs- so let’s not leave those out. He was happy & eager to become buddies with us without much delay (maybe being the toy suppliers helped?) and it was next to impossible to not fall in love.
He’s a bigger strong pup with a LOT of fluff to maintain- so he’s not a dog to bring into your life casually. He needs training, grooming, exercise, and consistency every day. He’s going to add a little work into your life- but it’s the kind of work that feels like fun with such a goofy buddy. Akita’s are a breed that can get discriminated against so please do research on both sides of any argument about them before making a commitment. This fella in particular was very friendly, playful, and pretty easy going overall- as they mostly tend to be.
If your not hesitant about a big fluffy goofball who needs some help learning the proper ways of the world, and enjoy meeting the loving gaze of a pricelessly cute face every day- head into the Burbank Animal Shelter and meet PB for yourself. You won’t regret it. He’s fantastic!

Jubilee is a vibrant and confident feline who is ready to charm his way into your heart! This outgoing kitty is not shy at all—he greets everyone like an old friend and is always up for an adventure. Jubilee is incredibly chill and easygoing, bouncing back quickly from any surprises that come his way.
One of Jubilee’s favorite pastimes is exploring high places. He loves to survey his kingdom from above, whether it’s perched on a shelf or lounging on your shoulders. He’s the ultimate shoulder buddy, always ready to keep you company while you go about your day.
When he’s not napping (and he loves his beauty sleep!), Jubilee is a curious little supervisor. He’ll hop onto any table or workspace to investigate what you’re up to, ensuring that he’s always in the loop. He adores being close to his humans and will happily curl up for a cozy nap, purring contentedly as he drifts off.
Jubilee enjoys gentle pets but has a few preferences—he’s not a fan of having his back feet or rear touched, and he’ll let you know with a little meow if you cross that line! He also loves to watch the world go by from a window or screen door, soaking up the sights and sounds of nature.
Jubilee has a unique way of showing affection—he might give your skin or hair a gentle lick when he’s feeling particularly loving. He’s also not very vocal; aside from when you touch his no-go zones, Jubilee prefers to communicate with purrs, eye contact, and body language.
This smart kitty learns quickly and is very polite at mealtime. He patiently waits by his bowl when he’s hungry, making sure to catch your attention without being demanding. He also loves to stretch, often coming over for a biiiig vertical stretch with your help. That love for stretching also ties into his joy for scratching to keep his claws in tip-top shape, so he’ll definitely need a scratching post!
Jubilee does have some allergies that require special care. When his allergies flare up, he becomes very, very itchy around his face. We have found that he thrives on a strictly hydrolyzed diet, monthly shots, and a daily dose of atopica. It’s essential to keep him on his meds and away from any other food—even if it’s just a bite—as anything outside his diet will trigger his allergies to flare up.
If you’re looking for a confident, affectionate, and playful companion who will keep you entertained and loved, Jubilee is the perfect match for you!
Mamas now available at the Burbank Animal Shelter.
Ready for a fun-loving companion? Meet Mamas, a perfect playful girl who lives for her stuffed animals!
When she’s not romping around with a toy in her mouth, this energetic youngster loves a good adventure. She recently showed off her amazing spirit on a hike, navigating the trail with gusto.
Because she’s a strong and spirited girl, Mamas will need a family committed to consistent leash training to help her become the best walking partner ever. Her high energy means she will thrive in an active home with plenty of exercise. With her charming personality and love for playtime, Mamas promises to be a fun and rewarding addition to any family ready to keep up with her zest for life.
Petunia didn’t have a great start at life. We knew this right away when she showed up as a stray in the city. We went slow and spent the time needed for her to trust us. Turns out, she’s pretty darn fabulous! She still shows some fear and aggression through the cage with the public, but that’s because she is unsure of new people and their intentions. We highly recommend that you ask to see her out of her kennel, to get a better idea of her true personality.
Petunia is not a good choice for a first-time dog owner. She needs to go to someone experienced and someone willing to continue her socialization. She attends our Sundays Hikes and goes on day trips with our volunteers, and she is learning that not everyone is bad or wanting to do harm to her. It’s a slow process but its working. She should go to an adult home for now. Small kids may trigger her fear. She loves other dogs and would definitely benefit from going home with a four-legged buddy.
She is so unbelievably loving once she trusts you, she just melts in your arms. Petunia is young and will adjust well to a routine and regular socializing/training. If you see yourself being that person and are willing to give what it takes to heal this sweet girl’s heart, ask to see her out in the yard for a meet and greet.

Hi, my name is Floofy. I am a very sweet young lady cat who loves people. I enjoy being petted and hanging out with my foster mom on the couch or bed. However I am not a lap cat. While I do love a good nap, I also revel in chasing small balls and toys and I sometimes will bring them to my mom to throw for me. I have the most adorable fuzzy feet. Check them out in the photos!
When I came to the shelter I was pregnant, and I had a litter of four cute kittens. They all went to good homes, and now it’s time for me to find my forever home.
For a while I had to fend for myself on the mean streets, so I am pretty territorial. I would do best as an only cat. I have never met any dogs, so I am not sure how I would like them.
Meet Bella, a special kitty who has a personality that’s equal parts entertaining, sweet, and endearing. She’s playful and loves batting around her favorite mouse toy or playing soccer if you give her a light-weighted ball. She loves coming over for pets when the mood strikes, and settling in next to you for a nap or for a good TV watching session – she equally enjoys action, sci-fi, comedy, or whatever you feel like watching. She is also a mighty hunter – flies don’t stand a chance! You’ll often hear her purring with pure contentment whether she’s playing with you or just hanging out enjoying your company – she is just a grateful and happy kitten!
While she may need a little extra time to settle in initially, this sweet girl will quickly show you her true personality. She’d thrive best in a calm household without small children, where she can fully relax and be her wonderfully playful and affectionate self. Once comfortable, you’ll have a companion who genuinely enjoys your company and will become your perfect buddy for those Netflix marathons or will gladly play with you any game you feel like.
If interested, please text her foster mom at 818-388-4858.
Meet Dax — Our Gentle Giant. Dax is a big-hearted, big-bodied softie who’s just waiting for his forever family. This handsome guy may turn heads with his size, but don’t be fooled, he thinks he’s a lap dog. If you’re looking for a dog that loves hugs, treats, and a good game of fetch, Dax might be your guy!
Dax has an easy going temperament and does well on a leash. He’s strong and can get excited around other barking or energetic dogs, but with some practice, he’s easy to manage- and after about 20 minutes of fetch, he’s very chill. Whether he’s lounging in the house or chasing a ball in the yard, Dax is happy just being near people he trusts. He’d do best in a home that offers a mix of playtime and relaxation.

Willow is a stunning, spirited girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart once she gets to know you. She’s a talkative companion who loves treats, catnip, and a good brushing session—and she’ll happily tell you when she’s ready for some “me time.”
Willow has learned so much since coming to the shelter, blossoming into a friendly and engaging cat when given patience, understanding, and her own space. She’ll thrive in a calm home as the only pet, where she can be the center of attention and set the pace for affection.
Willow is looking for an experienced, cat-savvy, adopter. With an experienced cat person who appreciates her independent streak, Willow will be a loyal and loving friend who keeps life interesting.

Pictures of Daisy Mae, this week’s Newsweek Pet of the Week. She had a hilarious reaction to her first taste of a new treat. Stephanie Clauson
This week’s Pet of the Week is Daisy Mae, an 11-year-old rescue dog who had an adorable reaction to her first-ever pig-tail treat.
“If she’s not eating, she’s sleeping or barking at absolutely nothing,” owner Stephanie Clauson told Newsweek.
Living in Sacramento, California, Daisy Mae likes short walks and meeting strangers.
“When Daisy is done walking, you will know,” said Clauson. “She will plop down, roll over, scratch her back and buttocks, with a huge smile like, ‘look at me, I’m so cute.’”
Clauson shared the hilarious footage of Daisy Mae’s reaction to her first-ever pig-tail treat, hoping it would put a smile on people’s faces.
“She is a ham, as you can see,” Clauson said. “My little butterball.”

Pictures of Duke the dog. His owner told Newsweek he is like a “person personality in a dog’s body.” Amelia A. Betancourt
First up this week is Duke, a 3-year-old dog who loves nothing more than to sleep, eat and play.
Owner Amelia A. Betancourt, who lives in New Jersey, told Newsweek: “He thinks he is royalty. He is very picky with food. If it does not look good, smell good, he won’t eat it. He wants what he wants and he wants it. He is a person personality in a dog’s body.”
Duke is a fan of hugs—but only on his terms. If he’s picked up for a cuddle when he hasn’t asked for it, he’ll let his owners know he’s not interested.
Duke also loves to see birds and animals in the backyard, before coming back inside to get wrapped up and take a nap.
Pictures of brother-and-sister cats Daisy and Dakota, hanging out together in front of the window and on their double bed. “They love me and my home,” their owner told Newsweek. Kristine Bemko
Next up this week is brother-and-sister tabby cats, Daisy and Dakota, who live with their owner Kristine Bemko in Bradenton, Florida.
Now 5 years old, the felines were adopted by their owner in May 2023 and have since settled in perfectly. “They love me and my home,” Bemko told Newsweek.
“Daisy loves food and treats a little too much, and she makes a toy out of anything, not that she needs to. Dakota is a momma’s boy,” Bemko said.
A picture of Marvin the rescue dog. He likes showing off his new look with hat and sunglasses. Jennifer Granko
Last but not least this week is Marvin, a rescue dog that was found in a sorry state, but is now thriving in his home with owner Jennifer Granko.
“Marvin was found dying in a ditch, skin and bones. Look at him now—he loves life and enjoys dressing up to make others smile,” Granko told Newsweek.
This stylish dude often brings a smile to people he meets, and is a perfect example of how rescue dogs can thrive with the right care.

Pictures of dachshund Cruz dressed up for Halloween. Bethany Price
This week’s Halloween Pet of the Week is Cruz, a year-old miniature dachshund who lives in Milton, Pennsylvania, with owner Bethany Price.
Cruz has become a local sensation for his outfits, donning different styles since he first came home at 8 weeks old.
To celebrate Halloween, Cruz has been taking on a fun challenge—wearing a different costume every day for 31 days of Halloween.
“I started looking at costumes for this year pretty early. We are going to a few events so I wanted to start figuring outfits out,” Price told Newsweek. “I couldn’t decide which one to do so I figured I would just do them all and make a month of it.”
From football player to bumblebee and even a dinosaur—Cruz has been sporting some seriously fun Halloween costumes all month long.
He’s even dressed up as popular figures including former Poison frontman, Bret Michaels, and late founder of Playboy magazine, Hugh Hefner, in a series of hilarious outfits.
Some of his costumes are homemade, while others are purchased from a series of stores.
“He is currently in training to become a therapy dog,” said Price. “I thought it would be fun if he could have different costumes to go see kids in the hospital as well as nursing homes and wherever else we go so the costumes will continue to be used.”

Our next finalist this week is Renzo, a rescue dog who brought joy to his owner’s life.
“We saved him, and he mended my broken heart,” Ryann Bruno, who lives in Florida, told Newsweek. “We had two lady dogs when we got him. Mine, the oldest, was on her way to the next stage. We introduced Renzo into our home as our third and our son.”
“He is in love with me as much as I am with him. He brings joy to my days. I can’t imagine life without him,” added the loving owner.

Since then, the pair have been almost inseparable.
“Chelsea has shown me true love and friendship in the five years that I’ve had her,” said the owner. “She loves me unconditionally, as I love her.”
