    Collaborative post

Transforming your bathroom doesn’t have to break the bank. While bathrooms are essential spaces, they’re often overlooked when it comes to home renovations. If you’re a budget-conscious homeowner looking to refresh this vital room without spending a fortune, you’ve come to the right place.

In this guide, we’ll explore creative and cost-effective ways to give your bathroom a fresh new look. From updating tapware to changing lighting and cabinet handles, these tips for transforming your bathroom on a budget will help you achieve a stunning renovation.

Spruce things up with a new coat of paint

    Revitalise your walls

A fresh coat of paint is one of the quickest and most affordable ways to transform your bathroom. Light, neutral colours will make the room feel bigger and more welcoming. Paint can instantly brighten up a room and cover up any imperfections on the walls.

    Consider accent walls

An accent wall in a bold colour or pattern can add character and depth to your bathroom. Choose a wall that acts as a focal point, like the one behind the vanity or bath, and get creative with colour or even patterned wallpaper.

    Update cabinets and furniture

Don’t stop at the walls; painting your bathroom cabinets and furniture can also make a significant impact. A fresh coat of paint on your vanity or storage units can completely change the room’s look and feel, giving it a modern and updated appearance.

Upgrade tapware for a modern touch

    Choose stylish taps

Replacing outdated taps with modern, stylish ones can greatly enhance your bathroom’s aesthetic. Look for sleek designs in finishes like brushed nickel, matte black, or polished chrome. These simple updates can instantly make your sink area appear more sophisticated and contemporary.

    Install a new showerhead

An upgraded showerhead not only improves your shower experience but also adds a touch of luxury to your bathroom. Consider installing a rainfall showerhead or one with adjustable settings for a spa-like experience at home.

    Hardware consistency

Ensure all tapware and hardware in the bathroom match. Consistency in finishes, such as matching your taps, showerhead, and towel rails, creates a cohesive and polished look.

Enhance lighting for a brighter space

    Replace old light fixtures

Outdated light fixtures can make your bathroom feel drab. Swapping them out for modern, energy-efficient LED fixtures can brighten the space and reduce energy costs. Look for fixtures that complement the overall design theme of your bathroom.

    Add task lighting

Consider adding task lighting around the vanity area. Vanity lights or sconces placed on either side of the mirror provide better illumination for grooming tasks and add a touch of elegance.

    Incorporate natural light

Aim to maximise natural light with minimal window dressings. Installing skylights or larger windows can flood your bathroom with daylight, making it feel more open and airy.

    Refresh your bathroom accessories

    Swap out towels and rugs

Updating your towels and rugs can add a splash of colour and texture to your bathroom. Choose high-quality, plush towels and rugs that complement your colour scheme for a coordinated look.

    Introduce decorative elements

Adding decorative elements like plants, artwork, or stylish storage baskets can infuse personality into your bathroom. These small touches can make the space feel more personalised and inviting.

    Upgrade shower curtains and rings

A new shower curtain can act as a focal point in the room. Choose patterns or colours that complement the room’s style. Don’t forget to replace old shower rings with new ones for a polished finish.

    Update cabinet handles and knobs

    Choose modern handles

Swapping out old cabinet handles and knobs for modern ones is a simple and effective way to update your bathroom’s look. Look for sleek, contemporary designs in finishes that match your tapware. Why not use a The Blue Space promo code to make that purchase even sweeter!

    DIY customisation

For a unique touch, consider customising handles and knobs with paint or other decorative elements. This allows you to add a personal touch without spending a lot of money.

    Ensure consistency

Make sure all handles and knobs in the bathroom match to maintain a cohesive look. This small detail can make a big difference in the overall appearance of the space.

    Invest in a stylish mirror

    Choose a statement mirror

A well-chosen mirror can act as a statement piece in your bathroom. Look for mirrors with interesting shapes, decorative frames, or integrated lighting for added functionality.

    Reflect natural light

Position your mirror to reflect natural light from windows. This will brighten up the space and make it feel larger.

    Consider additional features

Mirrors with built-in storage or magnification can add functionality to your bathroom while maintaining a sleek appearance.

bathroom with patterned floorbathroom with patterned floor

    Upgrade flooring with affordable options

    Vinyl flooring

Vinyl flooring is a cost-effective and durable option for bathrooms. It comes in various styles, including those that mimic more expensive materials like hardwood or tile.

    Peel-and-stick tiles

Peel-and-stick tiles are an easy DIY option for updating your bathroom floor. They’re available in a wide range of patterns and colours, allowing you to create a custom look without professional installation.

    Rugs and mats

If replacing flooring isn’t an option, adding stylish rugs and mats can provide a quick update. Look for moisture-resistant options that are easy to clean.

indoor plants on a windowsillindoor plants on a windowsill

Use greenery to brighten your bathroom

    Add potted plants

Plants can add colour, texture, and interest to your bathroom. Go-for low-maintenance plants that can cope with humidity; spider plants, orchids and ferns are all good options.

    Create a vertical garden

A vertical garden is a unique and space-saving way to incorporate greenery into your bathroom. Use wall-mounted planters to create a lush, green focal point.

    Incorporate succulents

Succulents are a great choice for bathrooms with limited natural light. They require minimal care and can be displayed in stylish pots or terrariums.

    Conclusion

Transforming your bathroom on a budget is entirely possible with a little creativity and strategic planning. By focusing on affordable updates like painting, upgrading tapware, enhancing lighting, and refreshing accessories, you can achieve a stunning transformation without breaking the bank. Remember, the key is to prioritise changes that will have the most significant impact on the overall look and feel of your space.

  • 11 Tips for Crafting Your Monthly Money-Saving Shopping Plan – Strategies for Smarter Spending – Southwest Journal

11 Tips for Crafting Your Monthly Money-Saving Shopping Plan – Strategies for Smarter Spending – Southwest Journal

    [ad_1]

To keep your spending in check, adopt smart shopping strategies both in stores and online. Despite the rising cost of living, it’s possible to stretch your budget further. You can maintain your lifestyle while building your savings, Offermate can just help you with that.

This means actively avoiding unnecessary purchases and ensuring that what you buy is more of an investment than a spur-of-the-moment decision.

    Key Takeaways

    • Cut unnecessary expenses.
    • Use lists and coupons, and buy in bulk.
    • Brew coffee, and use cash-back cards.
    • Have clear, realistic savings targets.
    • Choose no-fee banking options.

    11 Tips For Your Budget

    Guidance to Optimize Your Finances

    1. Look at Your Spending

Check where your money goes each month. Can you find areas to cut back? For instance, if you’re buying lunch outside every day, think about reducing it to a few times a week.

Making small changes like this can help you save money in your budget.

    2. Prepare a Shopping List

To avoid overspending on things you don’t need, create a shopping list before you go out.

This keeps you on track to buy only what you need, helping to prevent impulse buys.

    3. Check Prices Before Buying

Always compare prices before making a purchase.

You might discover the same item is cheaper elsewhere or find a less expensive alternative to what you originally planned to buy.

    4. Use Your Coupons

Start by collecting coupons from different places to make sure you’re getting the best deals out there. Look in local newspapers, store newsletters, and websites for the latest discounts.

Concentrate on getting coupons for things you already buy to avoid spending money on items you don’t need, just because they’re on sale dude.

    5. Cut Back on Non-Essential Spending

Everyone has essential expenses such as food and housing. We often spend money on things we don’t need, like frequent meals out or new clothes when our closets are already full.

By reducing these types of expenditures, you can save a significant amount of money.

    6. Set Your Savings Goals

It’s important to establish clear financial goals for each month. This approach turns budgeting into a goal-oriented process, whether it’s accumulating an emergency fund or saving for a big purchase.

By applying the S.M.A.R.T. criteria—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound—to your financial objectives, you create a practical plan that not only keeps you focused but also motivated to save.

    7. Distribute Your Income Wisely

Once you’ve set your savings goals, the next step is to organize your monthly income to cover all your expenses while still meeting your savings targets. The 50/30/20 budgeting rule is a useful framework here, dividing your income between needs, wants, and savings or debt repayment.

Always prioritize essential expenses first. After that, you can allot money for personal desires and then set aside funds for savings and paying off any debts. Regularly adjusting how you allocate your money is crucial for dealing with financial shifts and keeping your savings strategy on track.

    8. Take Advantage of Seasonal and Bulk Purchases

Buying fruits and vegetables when they’re in season can save you money and provide better-tasting produce. Check local seasonal guides to plan your meals around what’s currently abundant.

Also, buying items in bulk, especially those that don’t spoil quickly or things you use often, can significantly reduce your expenses. Remember to compare prices by the unit to make sure you’re getting a good deal. Keep an eye out for coupons and discounts to stretch your grocery budget even further.

    9. Make Coffee at Home

Spending $2.50 to $4 daily on coffee from a cafe can add up to $625 to $1,000 a year. This calculation doesn’t even cover more expensive drinks like lattes. However, purchasing a pound of quality coffee for about $15, which makes at least 30 cups, reduces your cost significantly.

By brewing your coffee at home, your annual expense drops to roughly $125. This change can save you between $500 to $875 yearly, and over $45,000 across a lifetime, not a small amount huh?

    10. Use a Cash-Back Credit Card for Everything

Take full advantage of credit cards that offer cash-back rewards by using them for all possible everyday expenses: groceries, fuel, bills, dining out, and anything else you regularly pay for. Just ensure you pay off the entire balance each month to avoid interest charges, which can negate the benefits of any rewards earned.

For instance, if a family puts $2,000 monthly on a card like the Capital One Quicksilver Rewards Card, which offers 1.5% back on purchases, they’d earn $30 monthly. Over 25 years, this adds up to around $19,000 yea, shockingly. Cards like the Citi DoubleCash offer 2% back, potentially increasing savings even more.

    11. Reduce Bank Fees

Take a closer look at your bank account statements and you might be shocked by the fees you’re paying for some stuff.

To cut down on these fees, use only ATMs that don’t charge you, make sure you have enough money in your account to cover checks to avoid overdraft fees, and use credit cards or free peer-to-peer payment apps like Venmo instead of withdrawing cash.

If you’re still getting hit with high fees, think about switching banks. If your current bank isn’t helping you lower your fees, an online bank could be a good alternative. They usually don’t charge monthly maintenance fees or require a minimum balance, and they often offer higher interest rates on savings and CDs.

Community banks and credit unions can be another option too. They offer many of the same benefits as online banks, like lower fees and higher interest rates, with the bonus of in-person service.

    Bottom Line

Essential Takeaways Budget-Friendly Shopping StrategyEssential Takeaways Budget-Friendly Shopping Strategy

In short, smart money management is all about simple steps and smart choices. Keeping an eye on your daily expenses, shopping with a plan, and leveraging financial tools like cash-back credit cards can boost your savings.

Small habits, like making coffee at home, can lead to big savings over time. Set clear goals, minimize fees, and remember, every little bit helps. Stick with it, and you’ll see your savings pile up. It’s rewarding to watch your financial savvy pay off, so let’s get started on this journey together!

Mum fears she may be homeless by new year as rent DOUBLED days before Christmas

    [ad_1]

AN AUSTRALIAN single mum says she could lose her home by New Year’s day after was rent was more than doubled just days before Christmas.

Jakki Brooking, 28, now fears homelessness as her landlords increased her weekly rent from £230 to £500 from January 1, 2024.

In an emotional TikTok video, the nurse spoke about her dire situation after living in the rental home for more than six years.

Jakki explained she was able to pay a lower rent as her property was, until recently, a part of the National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS), aimed at reducing rental costs for low-income earners.

She was paying some 20 per cent less rent than the average market rental prices.

However, her property was bought by new owners who decided to delist the property from the government scheme and put it up on open rental market to attract hire prices.

Her new lease, which is set to start at the beginning of next year, will have an increased rent amount which is more than double than what she is currently paying.

A teary Jakki expressed in the TikTok video: “I obviously can’t afford to pay that …I feel so stupid doing this [making video].

“My lease is up on the 1st of January, I’ve applied to houses and been rejected for all of them.

“I just don’t know what I’m meant to do now. This is literally so embarrassing.

“I am facing homelessness from the end of the lease.”

The limited availability of NRAS properties complicated her search, leaving her stuck between being a low-income existing tenant and not meeting the criteria as a new tenant.

Jakki also said she reached out to her real-estate agent explaining her precarious situation and the looming threat of homelessness.

But the agent, in return, threatened her with legal action if she did not vacate the property by the end of her tenancy.

Jakki turned to her audience, asking for suggestions.

She added: “I just don’t know what I’m meant to do now.

    “This is literally so embarrassing.”

One of her viewers commented: “Working was an registered nurse means you should be able to afford rent easily! What is this world coming to? I’m so sorry.”

Another added: “The housing in Australia is ridiculous, no one should be paying $600 a week to live in a house.”

Jakki revealed she has since found a place for her son, Levi, and her cat and dog to stay while she examines her options.

A SAVVY woman has revealed how she makes £10,000 a month doing a job not many people fancy having a go at.

The hard worker, who goes by @fionafifo on TikTok, shares a glimpse of her unusual career and tips on how to succeed in her male-dominated industry.

The Australian worker claims she has “the best paid job” in the country as a FIFO miner.

In “Fly in fly out” (FIFO) jobs, an employer will temporarily transport the employee to a location or site of work and then transport them back for a period of rest.

According to Professionals Australia, this method is most commonly applied to avoid permanently relocating the employee and their family to the site of work.

On one of her videos, the girl miner said a job in FIFO mining could get you between AUS$ 12,000 to 20,000 a month and up to AUS$ 100 an hour.

Roles include fitter, boilermaker, engineering, and electrician, the influencer said.

She claims that her employer also provides free accommodation, food, gym usage and the flight itself.

As well as encouraging people to join the mining industry, she is also proud to be a female miner in a male-dominated job.

“Who said that a feminine girl can’t work in mining?” she wrote on one of her post.

The TikTok clip included a sequence of Instagram-worthy pictures and selfies in glamorous locations, followed by snaps of herself in her work gear covered in dirt.

Although many followers rushed to the comment section asking for her help on how to become a miner, some seemed sceptical of the girl’s lifestyle.

One user commented: “You don’t earn 20k a month mate. Not a chance.”

Another added: “Let me see concrete proof and I’ll believe it.”

A third replied: “I think your numbers are a little bit over the top.”

Fellow FIFO miner Cal Mcllwaine is a new starter in the mines in Western Australia and makes over two grand a week.

He also shared how he manages to save up on taxes.

He posted a video on TikTok, telling his followers the FIFO gig was “very lucrative”.

Cal said his expenses equal to nothing when he is on the job as he is provided accommodation and food.

“You can literally come up here and spend zero dollars,” he added.

All of the saved cash is going to “travel fund” for Cal as he pays no rent or insurance.

“I’m just banking it which is unreal,” Cal said in the clip.

The mine worker then goes on to tell how to make a “s***load of money” in a short period of time.

“You’re given an opportunity to work f***loads of hours,” he shared.

Cal works 84 hours a week which is a double of a normal schedule.

He said: “I am essentially working two weeks’ worth of work in one week.”

His rotation means he spends two weeks on, two weeks off the job.

Each shift lasts about 12 hours, but the mine worker gets an extra overtime pay after working ten hours.

In his first week alone, Cal has made £1,805, and in the second week he was earning £2,052.

“Two grand a week is f***ing mental,” he shared excitedly.

He added that in his home country this amount of money would have to be earned over five weeks period.

“Back home you would need to be a doctor, a nurse, or a vet or something like that to be earning that amount of money in a week,” he said.

He shared how easy it is to get into the FIFO gig, saying: “Anyone can get their foot in the door in some way, shape or form”.

But Cal didn’t sway from sharing the ugly side of the job too.

“It’s obviously very hard, you’re working long hours, it’s dirty work, it’s in the heat.

“But you’re also getting paid a lot.”

The Irish citizen is also saving up on tax as he is exempt from paying the full income fee thanks to Australian laws.

Any holiday worker earning below £23,000 only pays 15 per cent of their earnings to the government.

But Cal has already surpassed that amount after four months and started paying a normal tax like the rest of Australians.

“I’ve seen a dramatic drop in my recent pay which is a bit sad but I’ve been loving it up until now,” he confessed.

We save tons in tiny home at Xmas with free decorations & beach party

    [ad_1]

A COUPLE who live “debt-free” while on the road have revealed their plans this Christmas – including free decorations and a beach party.

Christopher and Lindsay Harvey quit their busy nine-to-five lives five years ago to take up living full-time in a glam home on wheels.

The pair, aged 42 and 37, began their adventure to live freely half a decade ago and since then, they’ve travelled across the US and even Mexico.

Now, the business owners are gearing up to spend the festive season in their new traditional way – with their “travelling family” and using nature’s finest for decoration.

“In early December, we take our standup paddle boards and try to find a piece of driftwood that can serve as our tree, which we dress with basic lights and decorations,” Christopher, from Florida, US, told Need To Know.

Photos of the clever invention show a thick log plunged into a sandy beach, adorned in red tinsel and baubles.

“Each year, we see travellers from all parts of the world come together to celebrate the holidays,” Christopher added.

“It’s pretty eventful, as we spend Christmas on our favourite beach in Baja, and have done this for the past three years”.

The motorhome enthusiast added that he holds a potluck lunch with other travellers which often leads to many more friendships being made.

“There is an annual resident who retired as Santa a few years back and he now winters on the beach too, giving out treats and gifts to kids,” the van-lifer said.

“It’s such a special time of year, where we really get to cherish and embrace the feeling of being free.”

The couple, who used to live “chaotic” lives as foster parents for two years, always had a “hunger” to discover the world.

Using their savings, which they had amassed after living “frugally” in a bid to live without commitments, they purchased a Ford F-250 for £6,000, before moving onto a 1999 Shasta Cheyenne, costing £9,600.

In a bid to make the home-on-wheels their own, they spent a further £6,400 revamping the space including a built-in shower, power system, and living area.

Photos of the stunning vehicle show a fresh white exterior, but it’s the cozy interior that has left viewers shocked.

The inside space is packed full of homely wooden features, plump colourful pillows, and embroidered quilts and rugs.

But van life has not all been smooth sailing.

Christopher said: “Despite one setback after another, including times where we’ve had to stop and work to pay for breakdowns, we’re committed to doing whatever is needed to remain on the road.

“One of the breakdowns was severe enough that several mechanics said our truck engine was dead – but luckily a friend of ours was able to repair this”.

He added that because van life has become increasingly popular, their way of life on the road has drastically changed.

“Public lands are being closed to campers, and many don’t take proper care over the etiquette needed, so there’s become a lot of selfishness which didn’t used to exist,” he said.

“Costs have gone up due to the increase of the movement and it’s becoming harder to make ends meet, but we’re putting more effort in.”

Currently, the savvy couple work with a strict £2,000 budget per month but continue to make the most of their lives of freedom.

On New Year’s Eve, they’ll be celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary – but for now, the pair are focusing on encouraging others to pursue “their best lives” and not to feel “trapped”.

Christopher added: “It’s nice to have 100% control over the decisions we make and how we want to live our lives thanks to being debt-free.

“If we want to stop working, or continue on the road with no commitments, then it’s our choice.

“It’s allowed us to experience a fuller life than we would have expected.

“Start with the right intention – if it’s to escape, then that’s not the right reason to start.

“Enjoy the ride and wherever the wander takes you.”

But Christopher and Lindsay aren’t the only people to have traded a life in a house with a life on the road.

One full-time van lifer revealed how she travels 500 miles a month for just £200.

Coren lives in a converted Ford Transit, which she has dubbed “Fifi” and transformed into a cosy mobile home.

Inside, she has a double bed, some space-saving storage units and homely decorations.

Another TikToker explained how people pity him for living in a van – but he totally transformed it with a kitchen, bathroom, and huge double bedroom.

Richard Monkton’s van has a lot of the features you would find in your house including a shoe rack for when you walk in.

His van is also equipped with a fridge, hob, oven and sink allowing him to cook and eat whatever he likes in the comfort of his vehicle.

A WOMAN was stunned when she noticed an extra £40,000 in her bank account and had no idea where it came from.

It turned out the money had been wired to her by mistake – but she was still able to keep the cash and go on a shopping spree.

Aprille Franks shared details of the story on TikTok and revealed it was a staggering 40,000 that she recieved

    3

Aprille Franks shared details of the story on TikTok and revealed it was a staggering 40,000 that she recieved

Aprille Franks, a life and business coach from Las Vegas, says she was able to buy a house and a car “legally” with the cash when the bank failed to follow its own policy on transaction errors.

She shared details of the incredible story with her thousands of TikTok followers.

Aprille explained that roughly 20 years ago she received a letter to say that £39,905 had been sent to her bank account.

Thinking this was a mistake she frantically began to call family members trying to get to the bottom of where the mystery money had come from.

When she found no explanation Aprille called the bank to report the error.

However, this was when the plot thickened as they refused to admit that the cash had been sent to the wrong account and said the transaction was legitimate.

Aprille immediately sought legal advice as she was in a state of bewilderment due to her new found wealth.

In the TikTok video she can be seen saying: “And a lawyer told me exactly to do this.

“I went and I saw a lawyer, cause I was like what am I supposed to do with this money? What are my rights? What is the law?

He said, “Report it again, document everything and don’t touch any of the money for 30 days”.

He also told Aprille to make a public post so that anyone who thought the money was theirs could come forward and make a claim.

She added: “He said if they don’t claim it, it’s yours.”

The life coach claims that’s exactly what happened, but many of her followers were curious about how she managed to keep hold of the money.

She published several follow-up videos explaining what she did with the cash.

She said: “In short I spent it but here’s what I bought.

“I bought a house, I bought a second house that we flipped and made $22,000 dollars, me and the guy that I was dating at the time.

“I bought a car and we lived on it and I lived off that money, I was working full-time…making like $31,000 a year…it took me about a year and a half to spend all the money.”

Viewers were quick to question how she had got away with keeping cash that was never meant for her account.

One seemed to disapprove and wrote: “You must be slow to think you can convince me that you didn’t break the law.

“You knew the money wasn’t yours and kept it. “That’s stealing. YOU got lucky.”

But, in a video response, Aprille claims she tried her best to return the money and that the bank had failed to conduct an investigation in the correct time frame.

Speaking to her army of Tiktok followers, she said: “I tried to give the money back what part of that did you not hear?

“I called the bank when I got it and said this is not my money, they said yes it is and I said no it’s not.”

She says she questioned the bank over their policy when it comes to reporting transaction errors to which they replied that they had ten days to investigate.

She says no criminal or civil charges were ever brought against her because the bank failed to launch a probe in the days that followed.

Aprille claims she also received a call from a lawyer months later asking for the cash back on the bank’s behalf.

She allegedly told the lawyer she was within her right to keep the hoard of cash because she had reported the error and the bank had failed to follow its own policy.

She added: “They didn’t have any grounds.”

“So after 30 days, I started spending the money cause then after 30 days the money belonged to me.

“That’s why they had no grounds. Then when they called me, the reason that they didn’t send the police was because it wasn’t a criminal act, then they wanted to make it a civil situation because they f**ked up.”

Aprille claims to have also kept all of the letters, recorded phone calls and conversations that prove she attempted to return the cash.

She said: “It was just amateur hour at the bank like whoever was handling that didn’t handle it.”

She added: “I didn’t break the law and yeah I did get lucky. Good for me. That’s how my life has been. Pretty f**king lucky”.

The Sun has reached out to Aprille Franks for comment after she kept hold of the cash.

Recipients of erroneous bank deposits are not entitled to keep the money.

In most circumstances, the bank in question will spot the error and reverse the transaction automatically.

Anyone who spends the money is likely to be hit with criminal charges.

A man also had the shock of his life when £127,000 landed unexpectedly in his bank account.

He tried to hold onto the cash but was later jailed for a month after authorities were unable to locate the missing money.

The cash was put into his account in October 2021 after a medical trading company meant to send the money to a client instead, court reports revealed.

The unidentified man told the judge that he had used the cash to pay for rent and bills but the rest of the money is now missing.
