  • Manny Jacinto Hoped ‘The Acolyte’ Could Revive Romance

    [ad_1]

The Acolyte only lasted a single season, but fans still carry a torch for the late Star Wars spinoff. One element the show seemed eager to continue, and something a specific sect of fans were looking forward to, was the relationship between ex-Jedi Osha (Amandla Stenberg) and future Knight of Ren founder Qimir (Manny Jacinto).

To put it bluntly, people wanted to see those two smooch, and Jacinto’s among those ranks. During a recent interview with TV Insider, he talked about Qimir and Osha’s relationship—Oshamir, for short—being a dynamic that interested him to begin with. In his eyes, the big thing missing from “a lot” of franchises today is “the romance, the love and relationships. It’s a weird thing: we have the big fight scenes and the origin stories of these heroes and whatnot, but they don’t really have a relationship with other people.”

“I’m incredibly proud of what we did in The Acolyte and I loved Qimir and Osha relationship, because we were taking it back to having a relationship in this big world,” he continued. “[Relationships] made the characters and the story more compelling as opposed to just having big fight sequences. We were taking it back to a relationship in this big world.”

The lack of romances in blockbuster movies has long been a talking point, and Star Wars has been part of those conversations. Relationships and romance has always been a core part of the franchise, which Disney hasn’t always been the best about accepting, much less portraying. Most romances in the franchise don’t end well, but maybe summer 2026’s YA romance book Eyes Like Stars from Ashley Poston will buck the trend. And maybe if it’s successful enough, it’ll lead readers to Oshamir or whatever other ship is waiting.

  • The Internet Is Finding Out Manny Jacinto Is Hot Again—Is He Dating Anyone?

The Internet Is Finding Out Manny Jacinto Is Hot Again—Is He Dating Anyone?

Okay, it’s safe to say that we are in a hot Sith lord renaissance. Manny Jacinto is making the rounds on social media after he starred as the sneaky Sith lord Qimir in The Acolyte. If you haven’t seen that fight scene in episode 5 of the Star Wars Disney+ series, you are seriously missing out.

The Filipino-Canadian actor landed in the spotlight on NBC’s The Good Place where he starred as the goofy but very lovable Jason Mendoza. He’s also had brief cameos in Top Gun: Maverick and is set to star in Freaky Friday 2 as Lindsay Lohan’s character’s love interest. He’s in his star moment, but people on X are all over his portrayal as The Stranger or Qimir—joining the leagues of other hot Star Wars bad boys like Anakin Skywalker, Kylo Ren, and even Darth Maul.

One fan wrote on X, “manny jacinto as a villain is truly the best casting I have ever seen ever. the power this has on me… I am literally going to be unbearable for six months.” Another person posted a fan edit of him and wrote, “people just finding out manny jacinto is hot…. where have you been.”

One particular person who found Manny Jacinto hot from the very beginning is his fiancé.

    Who is Manny Jacinto’s fiancé?

LONDON, ENGLAND - MAY 28: Dianne Doan and Manny Jacinto attend the UK Premiere of Lucasfilm's "Star Wars: The Acolyte" at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on May 28, 2024 in London, England.

Manny Jacinto’s fiancé is fellow Canadian actress Dianne Doan. She’s best known for her portrayal as Mai Ling in Warrior and Lonnie in The Descendants. The two are really supportive of each other’s careers and Doan even posted a tribute to him on Instagram for his dedication to his role in The Acolyte.

She wrote, “I watched you pour your heart and soul into this role. Never have you been more creatively fulfilled and I am thrilled for you. We are so proud of you my Love. Watch out world… The Force Is Strong With This One ✨”

Manny proposed after he shot a very inspiring scene in The Good Place. “I was toying when to pop the question for a long time,” he explained to Vulture. “I looked at the Janet/Jason relationship, and there’s a sentence that Jason says to Chidi about relationships and it hit me pretty hard. I thought it was a sign that I needed to do it, and a week later I popped the question.”

He continued, “I took her to places that really meant a lot to us,” he said. “Where I first met her, where I first saw her, where we had our first date, and where we had our first dance class. I had these canvas things written down with a message saying why the places were important to us. At every location I had her close her eyes, I’d hold up the canvas, and she would open her eyes. I took her through five different places, and at the last place I had our families waiting and I proposed.”

Even in the midst of lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic, Manny said that he was grateful to be with her. When asked who he would like to be stuck with at home, living or historical, he answered, “I’m already stuck with her. Actually she’s stuck with me: my fiancée, Dianne Doan.” As for their quarantine activities, he said, “We’ve been playing a lot of Overcooked! 2 on our Nintendo Switch. It’ll test your relationship and reveal your true self.”

Not only is Amandla Stenberg about to become one of the newest Force wielders in the Star Wars galaxy, they’re also about to blow your mind as a musician too.

The official Star Wars site just posted a beautiful new video of Stenberg, who stars in the upcoming The Acolyte, playing the violin, something they’ve been doing since childhood. But what’s special about this video though is that John Williams himself not only approved Stenberg to play the piece, he also wrote them a specific new version optimized for solo violin. Which basically means you’ve heard the Star Wars theme a billion times, but never quite like this. Check it out.

The Acolyte | Amandla & Her Violin | Streaming June 4 on Disney+

Well, that was amazing. And we’re hoping Stenberg is equally as amazing as Mae, their character on The Acolyte which is coming sooner than you think on June 4. Mae is described by the official Star Wars site as someone who “gets swept up into a sinister mystery—one that puts her into the center of a conflict in unexpected ways.” We imagine that will be expanded out mightily in the coming months.

As for Williams, as far as we know, his music isn’t in The Acolyte (the composer for the show is Get Out’s Michael Abels), but hopefully, we get a theme here and there. The show, which co-stars Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss, premieres with two episodes on June 4. Are you as excited as we are?
