    A few months ago, I sat with Becky Hill backstage before her sold-out Brooklyn Steele performance. As we chatted about her collaborations and the struggle of being taken seriously as a solo artist, I could feel Hill’s passion. She’s an artist who takes her craft very seriously, someone who’s both humble and fiery all at once, with a voice that can bring an entire room together.

    Now, as I sit listening to Becky’s album a month before it’s released into the world for the critics and fans to pick apart and devour, I remember her desire to create real drum and bass music. I remember her promises of a record in the works, but I had no idea that it would be so powerful. The new album in question, Believe Me Now?, is a perfect summation of Becky Hill’s already illustrious career.

    Sure, she was discovered on season one of The Voice UK, but she’s also the only Voice contestant to score a #1 UK single. Despite mega-hit features on essential chart-topping house tracks like “Crazy What Love Can Do” with David Guetta, “Lose Control” with MEDUZA and Goodboys, “Gecko (Overdrive)” with Oliver Heldens, and “HISTORY” with Joel Corry…Becky Hill’s voice has been the main event- deserving of shining on its own, and not just because a male DJ is attached to the track.

    Which brings us to now: the release of her third and resoundingly best album, Believe Me Now? The album pushes boundaries: intertwining her classic, beloved drum-and-bass style with powerful ballads, sprinkling in her classic dance club roots with honest, vulnerable lyricism. It’s a sign of maturity and growth as a vocalist that Hill digs so deep within her songs, reflecting on heartache, love, and all the struggles she’s endured throughout her life.

    Songs like “Swim” will be instant favorites for those who love Becky’s classic upbeat dance moments…but songs like “True Colours” give us a glimpse into a darker time where Hill details her experience with being sexually assaulted and her healing process.

    Believe Me Now? proves that Becky Hill indeed is a voice of our generation. She’s left it all on the table, showing her real self with no holding back, no bull…just Becky. The album rips her away from “The Voice contestant” or “feature artist” and into a realm of her own: one where we know who the real Becky Hill is and her music alone is what matters.

    And 2024 just may be her year: with the new album coming out May 31 and a US tour looming in November…we’re ready to see what else Becky Hill has in store. It feels like she has it all figured out in terms of who she wants to be as an artist and who she is as a woman…which is why Believe Me Now? is an instantaneous classic.     Ahead of Becky Hill’s album release, I spoke to her about the real Becky Hill, dealing with her trauma, and more. Check it out below!

    PD: The title of the album, Believe Me Now?, seems to serve the message that you’re not messing around, you’re the real deal. Do you think your voice has finally been heard? Is this album the real Becky Hill?

    BH: Ah thank you so much! so lovely to speak to you guys again & I’m so glad you like the album!! This album has definitely felt like the coming of age of a lost girl that’s grown into a woman! I feel the most collected & comfortable in my own skin, like the hard work I’ve put into my career is finally starting to pay off & this album really reflects where I am in my life!

    PD: From starting on The Voice to now, what have you learned about yourself as an artist and a songwriter?

    BH: I guess before The Voice I was used to writing songs on my own in my bedroom & when I joined the music industry I started writing with other people. When lockdown happened I wasn’t sure if I could even write songs on my own anymore but I absolutely could. I wrote a couple of drum & bass songs on my own (“Hold On” – Netsky & “Here For You” – Wilkinson) & when starting this next album I wasn’t sure if I still had things to say, but I definitely did, they just grew with me. This album showed me how lonely I’ve been feeling & actually, on the business side of things, how determined I am to continue & build on the success I’ve had so far.

    PD: The track “True Colours” written with Lauren Aquilina is about your experiences with sexual assault. I know it can be difficult to open up about traumatic experiences in your music, but what made you do it with Believe Me Now?

    BH: I had taken all the steps of healing that I needed. I confronted the rapist, told my old friends, reported it to the police, had my old friends validate & apologize to me & now release a song about it. It’s felt like the final piece to the puzzle, being able to talk about something I used to feel so much pain & shame around & now to have released all that & show the world there was never anything for me to feel ashamed of in the first place has been so powerful. I spoke to my therapist about it last week, I guess I didn’t realize how much it had affected me speaking about it, she called it ‘the shame hangover’ & promised me that this was going to help others. “Self Esteem” is on the record too who has been dealing & talking about her experiences of sexual assault for a while now, so it’s been incredibly useful to have another artist to guide me through publicly speaking about such a sensitive subject.

    PD: These feel like some of your most emotionally vulnerable records…and yet you balance them perfectly with dance and house elements. Growing up in the dance community, what about it inspired your career?

    BH: Thanks!! That’s exactly the angle I was trying to create when making this album! It was the stories that my brother would tell of going to raves & having the best nights. The emotions I would feel that I didn’t know I had at such a young age that dance music would give me. The community of friends I had that were all so passionate about new releases on labels & artists & festivals. I loved all of it. It felt at its most prolific at the time I was discovering myself & my own taste in music. Dance has really changed my life, soundtracked it & taught me so much

    PD: This album showcases Becky Hill alone, not just who you can be on a collaboration. What was important to you while making this album and creating more solo work?

    BH: I guess I’ve always had different battles. Being a contestant on The Voice, or being a feature artist or not being able to release a song without having a feature on my record. I wanted to create a fully deep rooted dance pop album that showed I didn’t need anyone else featuring, that I could be a dance artist in my own right & that us girls can do it just as well, if not better than the boys!

    PD: Your headline tour starts in June. What are you most looking forward to?

    BH: Playing the new stuff!! I’m so glad I get to go out with new singles that people may not have heard already & show them the new stuff! The best part is seeing streams go up after gigs which shows that people want to listen back at home too, such a great feeling & I can’t wait to see everybody having a great time, that’s what my summers all about!

    With the holiday season in full fa-la-la-la-flow, it’s time to reflect. When the year winds down, we feel a bit of burn out — you stare blankly at screens without motivation, you don’t want to work, and you’ve just spent all your money on gift giving.

    The year ends in two weeks, which means all of your social media accounts are wrapping up the past 365 days and holding a mirror up to who you truly are. For Snapchat users, you get a montage of photos and videos from those embarrassing nights out and the time you took a selfie crying.

    At Popdust, we’ve always loved music. It’s why I have a
    weekly segment rounding up popular new music and it’s why we report on so many of your most favorite artists. We’re constantly searching for the next big thing in music. And 2023 was massive for changing the soundscapes we know and love.

    For instance, country folk was the breakout genre of the year thanks to artists like Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan. Popular DJ’s like John Summit and Dom Dolla have driven a surge in popularity of house music. We’ve seen Taylor Swift take over the world, alongside rapidly rising stars like Ice Spice and SZA.

    With the recent announcement of the GRAMMY Award nominees, it’s never too early to hold our
    own award ceremony to celebrate all of the awesome music released this year. The Popdust Music Awards are for all of those 2024 hitmakers who gave us viral moments, graced our speakers, and made us sing along.

Consistently breaking records like dominating the Billboard Top 10, Swift deserves her flowers.

    And speaking of flowers, Miley Cyrus is having a huge year with her new album,
    Endless Summer Vacation. “Flowers” is our Viral Song of the Year, only taking 112 days to reach Spotify’s Billions Club, the quickest in the app’s history.

    Becky Hill is digging through her purse as I walk into her dressing room. It’s about a half hour or so until she’s headlining at The Brooklyn Steel in New York, and the opening duo act GAWD is getting the already-hyped crowd, who has chanted her name at any lull, ready for her. Arriving at the venue, there was no doubt in my mind people were ready for Becky Hill, but right now Becky is ready for me.

    She’s wearing a denim set that glistens in the light thanks to a thousand crystals, it’s reminiscent of Y2K pop queens like Britney Spears. Her face stretches into a warm smile as she hugs me and my photographer hello, ushering us to the couches and introducing herself as if I haven’t been listening to her music for a good chunk of my life. Sitting with Becky Hill already feels comfortable, and it’s all thanks to her.

    What Becky was looking for in her purse was her set of press-on nails, which she begins to put on as we speak…like we’re two besties gossiping before she has to perform. We start talking about the year she’s had already, with releasing two new singles: “Disconnect” with Chase & Status and “Side Effects” with Lewis Thompson.

    The two singles indicate a new album currently slated to release in May, which she’s so excited about. She knows how to write an album now, it’s a real dance album. She’s shed the fear of not being accepted for her album not being pop enough, and is showcasing her confidence as a woman, songwriter, and singer.


    “I found that the music I was putting out wasn’t matching the music I wanted to listen to…and I decided last year that I was going to make a f—ing album that I would rave to, that I would be seen listening to in the clubs.”

    She takes me on a journey: moving to London alone at age 18 with no friends or family to help her, she meets Karen Poole (or as Becky lovingly calls her, Auntie Karen) who has since helped her write and create songs like “Remember” with David Guetta. Poole is the melody queen, and Becky Hill has the voice that can take your breath away: powerful, gritty, moving, and real. It’s a match made in music heaven.

    “If you would say a lyric to your friend, then that’s what makes the song,”

    Becky got her start on
    The Voice UK as a member of Jessie J’s team, quickly separating herself as a star in her own right when she became the first and only member of the show to score a #1 UK single with Oliver Heldens’ “Gecko (Overdrive).” For the past two years, she’s received the BRIT Award for Best Dance Act. She’s collaborated with David Guetta, Joel Corry, Matoma, Jonas Blue, and more.

    Since I’ve spoken with both Joel Corry and David Guetta, I ask her about those collaborations: songs like “Remember” and “Crazy What Love Can Do” with Guetta, and “HISTORY” with Corry. Joel Corry is a friendly face, a hard worker and “an utter sweetheart.” She goes on to tell an amazing story about her relationship with David Guetta, one of the most iconic DJ’s to date.

    “David made a turning point in my career that he didn’t have to make. It just shows what a beautiful f****** person he is. “

    When Becky Hill proposed her song to David Guetta she left out a few facts: (1) that is was her song and (2) that Guetta wouldn’t own it

    for himself. Once she got his approval of the track, she let him in on the secret and he still wanted to work with her. Becky delves into how she hasn’t always been well-received as a woman in the dance sphere.

    “I absolutely love and respect David Guetta not for his empire of what he’s built and who he is…but how he has treated me as a woman in dance music, which is quite rare. The respect he has given me has been second to none and I’ll always have him to thank.”

    “Remember” is the catalyst track for Becky Hill- the one that changed it all for her and allowed her to unlock new, well-deserved success. It’s the last song she plays on her sets for a reason, the one he allows for her to perform at the BRITS, to celebrate all she’s accomplished summed up in one song.

    She shares her dreams of working with Calvin Harris, but being a feature artist is not where Becky deserves to shine. As a woman in a predominately male dance music field, it hasn’t come easy. Someone with Becky Hill’s voice and already impressive track record should be a well-respected titan in her industry…but not everyone is so easy to trust a woman. Becky gets serious as I ask about being a woman in the industry,

    “It’s more-so just deflating. I have had to work twice as hard in the industry- I’ve been working for 12 years, I came off The Voice when I was 18 and I just broke the UK two-three years ago. Still to this day I have been having to do features for people to even give a f– about my music. My label is amazing, but there’s still this conversation when I make a song about which DJ to put on. I think people are less responsive to women than they are faceless male DJs.”

    She lists faceless DJ’s like Marshmello and Daft Punk, who have found major success while women have to dress and look a certain way to be well-received. She’s not wrong, but she admits since she’s broken through she’s seen more women have the confidence to pursue their dreams.

    “It’s the same for all women: you have to be sexy…but not too sexy. You can’t dress too masculine, but you can’t dress too feminine.”

    And while Becky Hill has navigated all of this, she’s still a blazing star constantly growing her outreach. It’s a sold-out show, her first for New York, with 8,000 people there
    only for Becky Hill, and you know it won’t be her last.

    When I was younger, I knew of two ways to get music: the legal way, paying $0.99 (and then $1.25) for songs on iTunes, and the illegal way, paying $0 to download the pirated versions on Limewire…Don’t lie, you had your ways, too.

    Maybe I’m aging myself by saying social media wasn’t as prevalent as it was now…you couldn’t just go on Instagram and announce new music. That’s right, you’d have to do things like watch television and pay attention, like when Disney Channel would play music videos instead of commercials. It was prime MTV time, you know that line from Bowling For Soup’s hit song “1985”: “and music still on MTV?” That.

    Essentially, you’d rely on solely on search engines, iTunes, and the radio to get your news. How archaic. Back when “doom scrolling” meant checking your email incessantly for new messages from your friends.

    There was no Spotify or Apple Music to curate special playlists…only writers like me reviewing new tracks (that were often printed on CD’s…gasp). Can you believe we used to burn playlists onto CD’s and listen to them as our parents drove?

    Now, music is more accessible than ever. We have access to any song written ever, essentially. I mean, people are constantly even hacking into celebrity’s iClouds and releasing their unreleased tracks! (It’s not ethical, but you get my point.)

    There is no better time to be a fan of music than this era. Now, with apps like Spotify, you can get a monthly subscription to listen to unlimited, commercial-free music with specially picked playlists geared towards your music taste and access to pre-sales for your favorite artist’s shows. The music world is truly at our fingertips.

    And that’s where I come in! I pick the best music that comes out every Friday across the board so you don’t have to comb through all of the new music playlists and feel lost. If you want your weekend to get a little easier, let’s get listening.

    Noah Kahan, Kacey Musgraves- “She Calls Me Back”

    At this point, Noah Kahan is just completing side quests. Whether it be performing onstage with Hozier, releasing collabs with Post Malone, Lizzy McAlpine, Zach Bryan, or most recently Kacey Musgraves, Noah’s been busy. This week’s newest duet is with Musgraves, who shows the other side of Kahan’s hit song “She Calls Me Back.” Musgraves’ melodic voice adds the perfect touch to this song filled with yearning.

    James Arthur- “Just Us” 

    What James Arthur can do to a song is unmatched. He’s the mastermind behind a heart-aching, soul-grasping ballad that will top the radio for weeks on end. An instantaneous creator of classics, James Arthur releases “Just Us”, ahead of his new album Bitter Sweet Love. It follows singles like “Blindside” and “A Year Ago”, “Just Us” is a reminder to focus on what’s really important.

    “‘Just Us’ is a song in which I confess to running away from what really matters and getting lost in the pursuit of validation from external things,” James explains. “It’s about chasing a hedonistic, hollow life. Realizing the true meaning of life which is of course about true love, loving ourselves, our families and our communities and being there for them.”

    Dom Dolla- “Saving Up” 


    Dom Dolla is one of the most exciting names in the electric dance community right now. With the mega-hit “Rhyme Dust” featuring the iconic MK out earlier this year, we got a sense of how Dom Dolla can produce any sort of dance music- regardless of if it’s house, disco, or anything in between. Now, with “Saving Up”, you have the perfect disco-inspired song to get you through the weekend. It’s a promising reminder that anything Dom touches is a banger.

    “I was in the UK last year after a massive summer of touring when I caught the train down to Brighton with some friends and ended up in an incredible studio overlooking the beach. I was missing home a bit, but felt really inspired and wanted to write a feel-good record, reminding myself of the importance of saving time for the ones I care about and love. Whilst (in the studio) overlooking the same site Fatboy Slim hosted his ‘Big Beach Boutique’, I was thinking about the UK’s dance music history and it inspired me so I decided to lean into the idea of writing something that sounds sampled, but isn’t. I often like to write records completely on my own, but it feels so perfect to have written this one alongside some good pals, Clementine Douglas, Caitlin Stubbs & Toby Scott.”

    Joel Corry- Another Friday Night 

    Another heavy-hitter in the EDM community is Joel Corry, who has a proven track record of solidified hits with songs like “Lonely”, “0800 Heaven”, “Head & Heart.” He’s produced songs that are the soundtrack to many nights out, and now he’s here with his debut album, Another Friday Night, just in time for the weekend. It’s one of the most highly anticipated dance albums of the year, with Corry’s uncanny ability to make a song everyone likes.

    Claire Rosinkranz- Just Because

    Claire Rosinkranz isn’t our featured artist of the week “just because”, it’s due to the fact that she’s released her debut album, Just Because. Rosinkranz is a young, dynamic artist who encapsulates the sound of surf and Southern California through picturesque music and retro inspiration. After being discovered at age 16, Rosinkranz has since taken the world by storm with her aptitude for songwriting and her fortifying vocal range.

    Just Because is highlighted by key single tracks like “Wes Anderson”, where Rosinkranz encourages the listener to get over their breakup…and “Swinging at the Stars”, more of an optimistic love anthem with an anticipated accompanying music video featuring a very special guest. It’s a no-skips, must-not-miss album.

    Chloe Stroll- “Hurricane” 

    No stranger to our featured artists lineup, Chloe Stroll is a Popdust fave. After debuting her music career earlier this year (and exclusively speaking with us on the matter), Chloe Stroll is not backing down. Her newest release, “Hurricane”, is a testimony to being loyal to the ones you love.

    One of the most admirable parts of Stroll’s music is that she is staying true to herself, and writing from a genuine place in her heart…which translates to the listener over time. “Hurricane” is an easy listen when you pair her voice with true, sincere lyrics.

    Neil Frances, DRAMA- “Energy”

    A fun-filled track meant for the dance floor, “Energy” is the product of when artists are able to combine their sounds seamlessly. It doesn’t always work, but “Energy” brings a genuine sense of excitement and makes you want to stay out dancing all weekend long.

    “Working with Neil Frances is fun. We’ve been jamming to their tunes for years, and when we teamed up, it was like a lightbulb moment. You know how it is when you work with strangers – it can be hit or miss. But with these guys, it’s a total breath of fresh air! We see a lot of ourselves in them which makes it very easy to create together. There is no pressure to conform or do things the “right” way. We’re just having fun and doing whatever it takes to take our music to the next level.”

    I don’t know what’s happening this week, but you may have picked up that every living, breathing artist is releasing new music. Seriously, name a heavy hitter in the industry and they’re probably dropping a new song on August 25. Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, and more will grace our sound systems soon enough.

    On a day that BLACKPINK, Zach Bryan, SZA, Iggy Azalea, and many, many more are releasing songs, there’s almost a guarantee that this may be my best playlist yet. The odds are, for once, in my favor and I’m confident we are pulling out a weekend playlist worthy of repeatedly listening to.

    For Ariana Grande, we are getting the 10th anniversary edition of her Yours Truly album, which was her debut. It’s been a hectic week, considering Ariana left resident evil manager Scooter Braun, who is seemingly retiring from managing in general. And while the public may be listening to “Karma” by Taylor Swift, we have a few new tracks to cover instead.

    That’s right: another weekend, another playlist. And with this much good music, we have no time to waste!

    Let’s get listening.

    Joe P- “Don’t Wanna Love U” 

    I need everyone to listen up: if there’s one song you listen to from this playlist, make it this one. Ever since I first heard it, I have replayed it at least five times daily. Stream Joe P for instant serotonin, I guess! When I interviewed him a few months ago, Joe P mentioned he was bringing his production to a studio for a bigger sound…and we got it.

    It’s a sunny, dance-y song that I bop down the street nodding my head along when listening. I’ve liked every song he’s released, but this is by far my favorite. The synth-heavy sound and tortured lyrics about not wanting to love someone who is bad for you, but loving them anyway make for a near-perfect song.

    Miley Cyrus- “Used To Be Young” 

    We’re looking forward to a potential Vol II of Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation album just a few short months after its release. To confirm these rumors, Miley released ballad “Used To Be Young” today, and the promo has been equally exciting. With lyric posters popping up everywhere next to old lyrics from hits like “Party in the USA” and “Wrecking Ball”, everyone is referencing their different eras.

    The song itself is a hit, which is no shock when it’s from someone with the range and vocal capacity that Cyrus does. She can do any genre, any type of song, and her voice will shine through. More importantly, the song will make sense. Just like fine wine, Miley only gets better with age.

    Ariana Grande – Yours Truly

    Fans have been anticipating new music from Ariana Grande, especially since she paused for Wicked filming – a scandal studded event that dominated headlines on its own…And while we love The Good Witch, we need to hear Grande’s voice again. The Yours Truly album was Grande’s intro to music, but now she gets to put her more mature sound and production abilities into it…so big things were expected.

    We hold these singers at a high regard for a reason, it’s so easy for us to forget how hard it is to sing, songwrite, and produce. That’s why we are so harsh on the songs that aren’t so good, so when artists like Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, and Ariana Grande rework their old albums, it’s impressive, it’s worth the listen, and it’s normally flawless.

    Selena Gomez- “Single Soon”

    Selena Gomez is making a return to music with “Single Soon”, a fun-loving, carefree track about how exciting it can be to be single. There’s been a lot of speculation about Selena’s dating life recently, which makes this song even more perfect, because it’s truly her message to us all: she’s in her IDGAF era and we’re here for it. It’s great to dance to, and just reminds me of classic Selena.

    A contrast to Miley Cyrus’ ballad, the Disney gals are showing their range. It’s good to see Selena having fun with her music, and just not listening to whatever the hell the outside world has to say.

    Zevia- “something I can’t do” 

    Zevia’s voice fills your ears like a coo, gentle and calming, beautiful and equally heartbreaking. With notes of Billie Eilish, Zevia can make a sad song feel like a hug. She makes you feel seen, putting unspoken heartache and emotion into song, “something I can’t do” is about taking away that deep depressive pain that some experience. Zevia says,

    “When someone’s been sad for a long time and bad things happen to them continuously, good things that come unexpected could be just as bad, as they’re not used to it. Sometimes depressed people pray for good, but for me even the good can be bad. I can’t allow myself peace otherwise I don’t know who I’d truly be.”

    Chloe Stroll- Pedestal 

    Our feature artist of the week, Chloe Stroll has been breaking into the music industry with her raw voice, an emphasis on the piano, and most importantly, her honest lyrics. Writing about real life experiences, “Pedestal” sums up heartbreak in any form – whether it be a friend, a significant other, or even a family member.

    A powerful follow-up to her debut single, “Run”, based on a break-in Stroll and her husband, snowboarder Scotty James, experienced. It’s a summation of Chloe Stroll: resilient in her lyrics, in the way she creates an honest track, and honest beyond measure.

    Joel Corry, Rita Ora, MK- “Drinkin” 

    Recently, I had the privilege of seeing Joel Corry live in Atlantic City. Not only does he have some of the biggest club hits right now, but he can put on an equally exciting show. Now, with a highly-anticipated debut album, Another Friday Night, is on the horizon and he’s here with yet another major collab with Rita Ora and MK.

    “Drinkin” takes the beloved sampling used in Chance the Rapper’s “Zero Problems”, and it makes you want to dance the night away. You can already hear this song shooting its way to the top of every bar playlist, it’s another soundtrack to your night out from Joel Corry. I’m convinced he’ll never disappoint, and I’m excited for the album.

    Yungblud- “Hated” 

    You can’t get much more personal than “Hated”, which is Yungblud’s recounting of being molested by a doctor as a child and dealing with internal hatred. The punk-rocker has a way of making catchy hooks and capitalizing on guitar and a hard drum that makes you release any pent-up stress and anxiety. Few times do we get to see an artist bare their entire soul into a song, and be so open and vulnerable.

    Not only is Yungblud’s song a testament for survivors of assault everywhere, he’s opening a necessary conversation about men’s mental health. It’s a mixture of anger, pain, sadness, and healing all in one.

    Audrey Nuna- “Locket”

    Audrey Nuna is a musical maverick, someone who creates larger-than-life music and it just works perfectly. For her new song, “Locket”, she is releasing a video directed by the late Valentin Petit, who tragically passed away in an aircraft accident this year. It’s the last video he ever directed, making the song that much more significant. Audrey says,

    “He was gifted in all the ways his work vividly illustrated, and with such a sense of refreshing humility towards his collaborators and crew that can often times feel rare to find in this industry. This is his final music video of this lifetime – I’m sure he’s already getting started, some place, somewhere, gathering ideas and crafting wildest and freest visions to life.”

    I think I can speak for the collective when I say this week has felt long and arduous. I feel like I’ve used every last shred of energy saved up to even survive all the workweek, so needless to say, I’m exhausted. But, that’s not stopping me from gearing up for another week of new music.

    If you don’t know by now, we have a weekly thing going here. I round up all of these new, glorious releases every Friday and you, dear reader, run to your streaming platform of choice and listen! It’s a mutually beneficial relationship, one that I look forward to weekly.

    This week is no different, we’ve got heavy hitters coming out with new music now that the summer is essentially over. The Disney Trinity is returning to music soon: Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus all have music coming within the next two weeks. It’s almost like it’s 2006 and I’m tuning into a Disney Channel Original Movie soon.

    And then, even further on the horizon, we have Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS looming. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves here, it’s only August 18! And while it may be my roommate’s birthday, it’s also a week full of new music.

    Demi Lovato – “Confident (Rock Version)” 

    Demi Lovato has one of the strongest vocal ranges in the music industry- which makes her voice perfect for rock and roll music. She’s able to hit all the notes that pierce your soul, added the heavy drumbeat and scathing electric guitar to give us the versions of her old pop songs that feel fresh. It’s apart of her new REVAMPED album, coming September 15, which features rock versions of all our fave Demi songs.

    We first saw the new rock era of Demi on her 2022 HOLY FVCK tour, and fans have been anxiously awaiting to hear Demi’s new spin on old faves. Alongside her all female band, Demi Lovato reinstates herself as the queen of genre-blending sound, a true musical genius.

    Khloe Rose – The In Between (album)

    Khloe Rose is our feature artist of the week: someone who has the ability to sing, write, and play multiple instruments deserves their own segment…especially when that someone is 19-year-old Khloe Rose. She’s created a flawless album with The In Between, which includes the title track about those in-between moments in relationships…where you can’t quite figure out what’s happening.

    It’s a refreshing feeling to have all of your emotions put into words, which is exactly what her music provides. It’s therapeutic to listen to, and her music is insanely catchy. She’s one to watch these days, if you’re a fan of artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift- check out Khloe Rose.

    Icona Pop – “Fall In Love”


    Icona Pop makes music for those who are ready to let loose and have a good time. The duo has given us bangers like “I Love It (ft. Charli XCX)”, “All Night”, and “Desire” with Joel Corry, but now they’re here with “Fall In Love.” It’s the perfect taste of their new album, out September 1, CLUB ROMANTECH. “Fall In Love” feels fun, lighthearted, ethereal in ways, and makes us feel all the emotions falling in love does. Icona Pop says,

    “‘Fall In Love’ is about that moment when you fall sooo hardfor someone it’s almost like hitting a wall; you get all dizzy and almost lose touch with the ground andcan’t focus on anything else. The track is kind of an experiment for us to play around with our poppierside; we wanted to play around with mixing up our lyrics, but approach the melody almost like you wouldwith a sample, except it’s just us singing.”

    Mantra of the Cosmos – “X (Wot You Sayin?)”

    Mantra of the Cosmos is like if you assembled the Avengers of UK music and put them into a band. Consisting of successful musicians from iconic bands, this group knows what they’re doing. I mean, when you put together Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays, Black Grape), Zak Starkey (The Who, Oasis), Andy Bell (Oasis, Ride), Bez (Happy Mondays, Black Grape) and latest members, Brix Smith of The Fall, you know you’re getting the best music.

    Their latest single “X (Wot You Sayin?) is pure fun. A refreshing drumbeat and creative lyrics meld into harmonica runs to create a genre-blended single. Every single member of this band put a little of their magic into the song, which is prevalent when you’re listening.

    Surf Mesa – “First Time (ft. Stevie Appleton)”


    Surf Mesa is making a name for himself quickly as a sought-after producer and someone who can make a banger track every single time. Ever since his essential debut with “ily (I love you baby)”, the world has been enjoying Surf Mesa’s ability to produce Beachy tracks that send you to the coast of California every time you press play. “First Time” with Stevie Appleton is classic Surf Mesa- chill, instilling within you some sort of wanderlust to be wherever the water is and the drinks are.

    Following hit singles like “Manzanita,” it’s an exciting time to be a fan of Surf Mesa. He doesn’t disappoint, giving you what you didn’t know you needed.

    If you’ve ever been sitting on your couch listening to the same playlist of songs you hyper-fixate on…same. I play the same songs on repeat once I find them until I am unable to listen for months after. It’s exhausting, and probably a bit unhealthy, but it’s the only way I know.

    So I cycle through music often. My friends go to me for new tunes, and it’s not just because I’ve taken up writing about music for a living. I have always been on the search for new music, long before I made it my job. My career has simply made the new music easier to find.

    If you weren’t aware, Friday’s are the big release day for artists. It’s a glorious reminder that with the new weekend, comes new soundtracks for our plans. And this week, I feel confident we have multiple songs that will be added to your daily rotation. I mean, who doesn’t love new Joel Corry and Chelsea Cutler?

    And after a long week, I’m looking forward to shutting my laptop and opening Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist. I like to compile my own list of new music releases from each week, so here is the best new music from the week of July 14, 2023!

    Joel Corry x Icona Pop x Rain Radio – “Desire” 

    Joel Corry has made a name for himself as one of the biggest hit-making DJ’s right now. With tracks like “BED” feat. RAYE and David Guetta, “OUT OUT” feat. Jax Jones, Charli XCX, and Saweetie, and others like “Sorry”, “Lonely”, and “Head and Heart” feat. MNEK, you can hear his music at just about any bar or club across the country. His new track with the icons Icona Pop and Rain Radio is no exception.

    “Desire” has everything you need for a summer beach club track, and it’s also the first single off Corry’s new project, Another Friday Night. With features from Rain Radio, a masked duo who is rumored to be the legendary Fred Again…, this track will get you on your feet to start off the weekend.

    Chelsea Cutler – “I Don’t Feel Alive” 

    As a longtime fan of Cutler’s, this has to be one of my favorites. An instant classic filled with Chelsea Cutler’s classic honesty and candid thoughts that sum up perfectly how we feel. Described as the “closest thing to a journal entry”, “I Don’t Feel Alive” talks about feeling inadequate and like you don’t have it together, how you don’t feel alive even and struggle with mental health despite trying to get better.

    A catchy, passionate bridge of “I keep coming up for air and ending up with water in my lungs” reminds us to actually live through the experiences of life and not just go through the motions. With an almost upbeat tune, the lyrics provide an eye-opening juxtaposition.

    Chloe Stroll – “Run” 

    We are excited to introduce Chloe Stroll, a rising singer-songwriter who released “Run” about a home invasion she experienced with her husband. It’s a song she’s using to cope, and you can feel the pain and trauma in her voice and lyrics as she recounts that horrifying experience. And while you may know her as being the sister of Formula 1’s Lance Stroll, Chloe’s music career proves he is not the only talent to be recognized in the family.

    She’s been creating music since she was seven, growing up in Canada…and while she pursued other careers for a while, music was always pulling her back. “Run” is a sensational entry into the industry, Chloe’s melodic tone and crushing lyrics will have you begging for more.

    Khloe Rose – “The In Between” 

    Rapidly rising for a reason, Khloe Rose does it all. She’s a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who is looking forward to releasing her debut EP, The In Between, on August 18. The title single represents who Khloe Rose is as an artist perfectly: unique, relatable, and insanely catchy.

    It’s a song about those in-between stages in relationships where the lines feel blurry and you aren’t sure what’s going on. It sums up the thoughts of a generation, while staying true to Khloe’s strong vocals and ability to make a hit track. Her other singles “Fictional” and “The Other POV” are worth the listen as well, giving you a grounded glimpse of who Khloe Rose really is.

    Becky Hill x Chase & Status – “Disconnect” 

    Becky Hill has won two BRIT awards and has become a staple feature vocalist on tracks for the Dance world. Her new dance floor anthem is not to be missed, soon to be heard at parties across the world. Ms. Becky Hill does not miss, getting us up out of our seats every single time.

    “A decade on from ‘Afterglow’ and I honestly didn’t think that I’d be able to do it again, but I have never been more excited about a drum ‘n’ bass tune like I am about ‘Disconnect.’ It’s a true dance floor record that tows the line between the rave and the radio, and to be working with the likes of Chase & Status, who I have dreamed of working with since I was a teenager, is a real moment for me. It’s been going off at festivals over the last few months and I can’t wait for everyone to have it for themselves. I’m so proud of this one.”
