Game Freak on Working With Apple, a Potential Switch Port, Gear Project’s Future, and More – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Earlier today, the legendary Pokémon developer Game Freak launched an enhanced version of its 3DS classic Pocket Card Jockey on Apple Arcade in the form of Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!. Over the last week, I’ve been playing it on multiple devices for review including checking out the early parts of the 3DS game once again to compare with this new version. I had a chance to talk to Masao Taya (Director Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!) and Masafumi Saito (General Manager Development Department 1) at Game Freak about today’s launch, working with Apple, a potential Nintendo Switch version, the future of Gear Project, and more.

TouchArcade: Pocket Card Jockey was one of the more interesting 3DS eShop exclusives. It also has quite a cult following outside Japan. When a trademark for Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! was spotted last month, a lot of people expected a sequel to potentially launch on Nintendo Switch. What led to the decision to bring it to Apple Arcade over other platforms?

Masao Taya: We released an F2P smartphone app version of Pocket Card Jockey in Japan, but we couldn’t adapt the game very well to the F2P style, it didn’t go well in business terms. After that I kept thinking about a way to make Pocket Card Jockey a success as a smartphone app or mobile game, but I had a lot of other (fun) work to do, so I didn’t do anything about it. While this was happening, Apple Arcade began to catch on in Japan. With Apple Arcade, which requires absolutely no in-app purchase beyond the subscription service fees, there was no need to forcefully remodel the game into an F2P style, so I decided to see if I could provide the real joy of playing Pocket Card Jockey with it.

I know that there are a lot of people who’d love to see a Nintendo Switch version, and porting it is one possibility, but right now our main focus is on Apple Arcade users enjoying it.

TA: The original Pocket Card Jockey was released on iOS in Japan, but it never saw an international release barring the 3DS version published by Nintendo. Were there plans to bring the original iOS release to the West at all years ago?

MT: No, we had no plans to do that. Like I said before, the smartphone app version we released in Japan was F2P, a model that required ongoing sales to secure the running costs, including server side maintenance. Given that it didn’t go so well in Japan, it would have been difficult to decide to expand it to the US and to Europe.

TA: Pocket Card Jockey was an interesting take on two different mechanics that worked perfectly. Has there been any change to the core mechanics for the Apple Arcade version barring bringing a dual screen game to single screen devices?

MT: The gameplay in this remake is essentially the same, but one point that’s different from the previous version is stamina control during races. In this release, stamina recovery cards are mixed into the solitaire depending on the positioning of the horse. The more stamina recovery cards there are in one position, the less energy there is to gain. So, the trade-off between stamina and energy is clearer than in the original.

You can play the game and win it without knowing this fact, but I think users will have more of a sense of wider strategies — like deciding in one race to focus on stamina recovery, or in another to go all out to gain energy at the risk of running out of stamina. Of course, if you make the right choice then your chance of winning increases. I hope users who are already familiar with the game keep this in mind when playing.

TA: Was there anything you couldn’t do for Pocket Card Jockey on 3DS that has now been possible with more powerful hardware on Apple Arcade devices barring the 3D races?

MT: The key point where we really made full use of the power of Apple products is the 3D screen. We’ve fine-tuned it so that it runs well even on slightly older devices, but also to enhance the rendering a bit more using the power of Apple devices with the new chips.

TA: The highlight of Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! for existing fans of the game is the 3D racing segments. What else should longtime fans expect in Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!?

MT: A feature of all Apple Arcade titles is the ability to smoothly share save data among several devices. So, you can play games at home on your iPad, Mac, or on a big screen with Apple TV, then easily carry on playing it out of the house with your iPhone.

The use of 3D for the race scenes goes beyond enhancing the rendering. The relative positions of the horses and the special cards shown with simple symbols on the previous version (on the lower screen in the Nintendo 3DS) can now be shown in the 3D space of the race scenes. So, while watching the fascination of the race, at the same time you can keep your eye on the cards to experience both hope and despair of collecting or missing said cards. That’s one point I quite like about this version.

TA: Are there any plans to add controller support to iOS and iPadOS?

MT: Nothing has been decided on that at this moment.

TA: How has it been working with the team at Apple for Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On? Were they involved from the start to help bring this to Apple Arcade?

MT: Apple regularly gave us advice during development. They gave us feedback on some English expressions that are difficult for us to notice, which was quite a big help. Regarding the gameplay, they constantly said how fascinating it is, which created a really good atmosphere for us as we carried on with the development.

TA: I enjoyed Game Freak’s Little Town Hero quite a bit on Nintendo Switch for its combat, designs, and music. Is there any chance that can come to mobile in the future?

MT: Thanks so much! Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans to do that at the moment, but as the director of Little Town Hero, I’m happy to hear how much you like it.

TA: Game Freak has a lot going on with recent Pokémon games including Pokémon Legends: Arceus that is my favorite game in the series. I wanted to know how the Gear Project at Game Freak has changed in the last few years and whether we can expect more of these more-creative smaller titles?

Masafumi Saito: The development scale of Pokémon Legends: Arceus and other Pokémon series games has grown, so having enough staff for Gear Projects has become an issue for Game Freak, but we have no intention of stopping work on making new games.

In recent years we’ve adopted a style of working on development in cooperation with other companies. We’re aiming to be able to work on bigger titles, as well as the smaller-scale ones, than we’ve had so far. We’re still going to bring out more games with the Gear Project that you can all look forward to!

TA: Can we expect more Gear Project titles to come to Apple Arcade on iOS in the future?

MS: This is our first game release on Apple Arcade, so firstly we want to hear the reactions of users who play it and see what they think of it. If it looks good, then of course there’s a good chance we’ll be able to provide other titles to Apple Arcade. I’m certainly hoping so!

Thanks to Masafumi Saito (General Manager Development Department 1) and Masao Taya (Director, Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!) for their time here leading up to the launch of Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! and also to Jennifer Tam at Apple for facilitating this interview.

‘Pascal’s Wager’ New iOS Update Adds Haptic Feedback Support for Cut-Scenes, Combat, and More – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Pascal’s Wager ($3.99) recently had new DLC and a costume arrive through an update on iOS and Android. Tipsworks and Giant Games have been updating the game a ton since launch with new content and paid DLC. With the last major update adding Elena as a playable character with the option to play rearranged stages and more, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the game in the future. Today, we have a new iOS for the game bringing in RichTap Haptics support. This update brings in haptics for cut-scenes, combat, and more. I checked it out for a few minutes, and it is a great implementation on my iPhone. This update will go live for Android in the future.

If you’ve not played the recent DLC for the game, the Dance of the Throne DLC for Pascal’s Wager is priced at $1.99 on iOS and Android while Elena’s outfit ‘Enigma’ DLC is priced at $0.99. If you’ve not gotten the game yet yet, Pascal’s Wager is available on the App Store for iOS here and on Google Play for Android here. Read our review of it here. Here’s our forum thread for the game. I featured Pascal’s Wager as one of the best iOS games to play with keyboard and mouse. Do you play Pascal’s Wager often on mobile and have you played the recent DLC?

Wales Interactive just revealed the first trailer for Ten Dates, the sequel to the interactive romantic comedy game Five Dates (Free). Ten Dates is due on Valentine’s day worldwide for mobile, PC, and consoles. Ten Dates features Misha from London who tricks her best friend Ryan into going on a speed dating event with her. It features real-time relationship status tracking that adapts the story, a streamer mode (likely not on mobile), and more. Watch the announcement trailer (via GodisaGeek) for Ten Dates from Wales Interactive below:

As of this writing, pre-orders and pre-registrations aren’t available yet. You can wishlist it on Steam and even sample the game through a free demo here. Check out the official website here. Wales Interactive have been bringing quality FMV games to multiple platforms including mobile over the years, and I’m looking forward to what else the studio has in the works for iOS and Android this year. I’m still a few releases behind on Wales Interactive’s catalogue. My recent favorite FMV game is definitely Square Enix’s The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story. • ‘Fighting Fantasy Classics’, ‘Toon Blast’, ‘Grindstone’, and More – TouchArcade

‘Fighting Fantasy Classics’, ‘Toon Blast’, ‘Grindstone’, and More – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It appears the ice has finally properly shaken from the holidays, and we’ve got plenty of updates to pick from as a result. I’ve grabbed a bag of them for you to ponder over as you come to grips with the Monday ahead of you. Or behind you, depending on the time zone you are in and when this article is posted. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

    MARVEL SNAP, Free

I already did a whole separate story about this update late last week, but I like this game a lot so I will include it here again. This update adds some new UI features, and you can now see which artist did each card’s picture. Some cards were buffed, some cards were nerfed, and some cards were moved from their previous pools to a lower-level one. You can also select your favorite variant of a card so that it’s easier to find. Not bad.

    Jetpack Joyride, Free

With lots of potential choices for events, it’s interesting to see Jetpack Joyride opt to do a cross-over with its Halfbrick stablemate, Fruit Ninja. The Cut & Run event gives you a chance to unlock a Sensei costume, Fruit Jetpack, and more. Sure, that seems like a fun idea. I can’t even remember if it’s done this one before, but I suppose it probably has. Genuinely new events are rare for this game these days.

    Toon Blast, Free

Our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update this week is as obligatory as it gets, friends. I’m pressed for time again and that means we’re relying on an old faithful. Toon Blast has fifty new levels to play, and there’s some bit in the update notes about these being part of a new episode called Mission Accomplished. Those words call one picture to mind, and one picture only. I won’t specify because it is super-easy to make some people cranky and I’m too tired to deal with that anymore if I don’t have to.

    Grindstone,

The popular Apple Arcade puzzler has a fresh new update to enjoy, and it has some good stuff to dig into. The Cosmic Darkside has expanded, and that means you’ve got some business to take care of. It’s not all hustle and bustle, though. You can find some new gear among other things, and a new Hat Stand has opened up. I bet it sells hats! But if it didn’t, that would be quite the trick to play on me. I would have to respect such a move on principle.

    Super Leap Day,

Alas, 2023 is not a Leap Year. I’m glad the developers of Super Leap Day are picking themselves up and carrying on anyway. The latest version adds a new Windy Skies theme to the game, with wind funnels, fluffy clouds, parachutes, and some fresh enemies to deal with. As ever, you should remember to leap before you look. Or is that the other way around? I can never keep that sorted, and the order is awfully important there. I’ll have someone check it for me later, I guess.

    Episode XOXO,

Game of Hearts continues in this update to the Apple Arcade version of Episode, with all-new chapters to play through. Can you keep it together around the star basketball player you have a crush on, or are you about to go on a love rampage? As ever, the choices are yours. Good luck getting that smooch! Make the right decisions and it will be… a slam dunk?

    Fire Emblem Heroes, Free

I bang this drum pretty often when a Fire Emblem Heroes update shows up, and I’ll bang it again here because there aren’t many other ways to fill out the paragraph: most updates for this game these days are pretty small. So is this one. Some new skills for Legendary Hero Leif and Mythic Hero Altina were added, and Meisterbogen and Ragnell Alondite can be upgraded at the Weapon Refinery. That’s about it. But with a new Fire Emblem mainline entry launching this week on Switch, there will be some other interesting stuff soon.

    Disney Magic Kingdoms, Free

Alright, now that everyone has left, I’m free to move along to the latest Disney Magic Kingdoms update. Mr. Stork arrives in the kingdom, and he’s here to reunite Mrs. Jumbo and her son, Dumbo. You can also add the Casey Jr. Circus Train attraction to your park. Also in this update, Season 3 kicks off bringing with it some content related to the rather enjoyable Pixar movies Soul and Luca. Complete the tasks, get the rewards. Simple as that.

    Fighting Fantasy Classics, Free

It’s been a few minutes since the previous book was added to Fighting Fantasy Classics. The latest addition is one that is very near and dear to me, Appointment with F.E.A.R.. You create your own superhero and battle against the evil forces of F.E.A.R., with the stakes of Titan City itself on the line. A fun story that knows when to turn on the cheese, and one I’ll happily dive into anytime. The winner of the coveted UMMSotW award is an easy choice this week.

    MARVEL Future Fight, Free

And we’ll close things out with a look at the latest version of Marvel Future Fight, which is running an event called Moon Temple Defenders. New uniforms for Miles Morales, War Tiger, and Shadow Shell are on deck, along with the new Dispatch Mission Sector 13. Shadow Shell’s Tier-4 is now available, along with Tier-3 Miles Morales. Definitely some slick-looking new threads for all of the involved characters.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!

  • New ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’ and ‘Fire Emblem Engage’ Cross Promotion Nets You Bonuses in Each Game This Week – TouchArcade

New ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’ and ‘Fire Emblem Engage’ Cross Promotion Nets You Bonuses in Each Game This Week – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Nintendo just announced a new cross promotion for Fire Emblem Heroes (Free) and this week’s new Nintendo Switch title, Fire Emblem Engage. Linking your account to both games will net you orbs in Fire Emblem Heroes and a bonus item set for use in the Nintendo Switch game Fire Emblem Engage. To get the Fire Emblem Engage Order of Heroes item set, you need to have played Fire Emblem Heroes on iOS or Android and have linked your Nintendo Account to the app. The bonus in Fire Emblem Heroes is five orbs, which is not as good as the bonus given when Fire Emblem Three Houses released a few years ago. This collaboration will also see Fire Emblem Engage heroes arrive in Fire Emblem Heroes. Watch the trailer for that below:

If you’re wondering how to claim the Fire Emblem Heroes bonus in Fire Emblem Engage, you can follow the steps here with screenshots. It is worth noting that you should redeem your code within 150 days after getting it for the Nintendo Switch game. I haven’t played Fire Emblem Heroes in a while, but have adored my time with Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes last year. This collaboration got me to re-download Fire Emblem Heroes on iOS. It remains to be seen if I will spend more time with it after the item pack though. If you’ve not gotten it yet, Fire Emblem Heroes is available worldwide for free on iOS and Android. Details for Feh Pass paid subscription are here. If you’ve not played Fire Emblem Heroes for a while or play it regularly, what do you think of the new content and this collaboration?

‘Stardew Valley’ Gets More Updates Following 1.5 Launch on Mobile, Android Save File Missing Workaround Available – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

A few days ago, Stardew Valley ($4.99) creator Eric Barone released the massive version 1.5 update for iOS and Android. This update brought the mobile version up to date with the PC and console version. Since then, we’ve had 3 total updates hit iOS with big fixes for new issues introduced. Some Android users also reported save-related issues. Eric has posted a workaround for the Android save file issue here. If you haven’t kept up with what the update itself brings, Stardew Valley 1.5 features new content including new end game content, quality of life features, the ability to move beds, a new Beach Farm, advanced game options, and a lot more. When Eric said this update was quite a re-write for the game on mobile, we can clearly see that with how fast these new bug fix updates are hitting. I’ve not run into major issues, but this is amazing to see, and I hope it is stable for everyone on both iOS and Android soon.

If you run into any issues with this update, you can report them here. Eric Barone is currently also working on Haunted Chocolatier, which is a brand new game I’m looking forward to playing on Steam Deck until we get a console and mobile confirmation. If you haven’t tried Stardew Valley yet, read our original review. We even featured it as our Game of the Week. You can buy it on the App Store for iOS here and for Android here on Google Play. If you own a Nintendo Switch and an iOS device, I compared both versions of the game to help you find the best platform to play it on. Here’s our forum thread on the game for more discussion. • Shredder’s Revenge’ Mobile Review – An Excellent Port of an Outstanding Beat Em Up – TouchArcade

Shredder’s Revenge’ Mobile Review – An Excellent Port of an Outstanding Beat Em Up – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge (Free) from Tribute Games and Dotemu is a very special game. Not only is it a fantastic beat ’em up, but it delivered on bringing the experience I had as a kid playing the Konami classics to current platforms with a modern experience. Unlike most of Playdigious’ prior conversions for mobile, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is available through Netflix for subscribers, and it is one of the best Netflix Games additions just like Into the Breach.

If you aren’t familiar with TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, it is to the Konami classic TMNT beat ’em ups what Streets of Rage 4 is to that series. While I adore both TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge and Streets of Rage 4, the former is more special because I have a ton of nostalgia for these games from when I played some of them years ago. The current mobile version is one update behind the console and PC version, which means the custom mode and new filters aren’t available yet. Hopefully they are added soon.

Before getting into the mobile port features, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is special because of how unique the cast of playable characters is, how detailed and well-designed the levels are, and also for the superlative soundtrack from Tee Lopes. All of this comes together with gorgeous visuals that perfectly deliver on a modern take for a classic TMNT experience. In addition to the fleshed-out story mode with multiple bosses, this mobile version has access to the arcade mode which has you playing with limited lives and no saves.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge on iOS has full touch and controller support. The touch controls are very good as well. On the controller side, I tested both the Razer Kishi V2 and the Backbone One PlayStation Edition. Both displayed Xbox prompts but worked without issues. If you aren’t a fan of touch controls, you can use a controller without issues.

Visually, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge looks perfect on the iPhone 11 and iPad Pro (2020) I used to try out the preview build and publicly available release on. It has artwork banners/bars around the gameplay and menus since it was originally designed for 16:9 displays only. It also runs very well. I didn’t have any major performance issues, but I haven’t been able to stress test the online in every level yet. The party menu confirms support for 6 online players right now which is good to see.

I had access to the game through a preview build pre-release, and I’ve tested the online in the publicly available version to confirm that it works great. While I wasn’t able to test the multiplayer much pre-release, the online play has worked brilliantly so far. I even tested it with two devices on cellular rather than wifi where it worked without any issues. The online play lets you create a party and share a code, find players online, or join using a party code.

As with my other reviews of mobile ports, I wanted to compare TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge on all portable platforms. Having now played it on iPad, iPhone, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Steam Deck, I like the iPhone and Switch (non Lite) versions the most. The Steam Deck doesn’t really offer any benefit for TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge like it does with Dead Cells, and the Nintendo Switch OLED model screen alongside modern iOS displays are a lot nicer especially with how colorful TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is. The game controls very well across the board and you will likely have no trouble with it on your platform of choice. There will be some slowdown in certain parts on Switch and older mobile devices though while Steam Deck runs it without any issues.

Despite being one update behind the PC and console versions right now, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is absolutely essential. Playdigious did a fantastic job with this outstanding beat ’em up, and you owe it to yourself to play it if you have a Netflix subscription.

A few weeks ago, Second Dinner showed off the road map for the next few updates for our game of the year, Marvel Snap (Free). The first of those updates has arrived, and while it’s not as big as what is to come, there’s enough in here that I thought it best to make an article highlighting the good stuff.

First up is a new feature that allows you to see artist credits on each of the cards. The artwork is great in general in this game, and it’s nice to know that, for example, the positively adorable Baby Variant art is done by Skottie Young. The UI has seen some adjustments too, with collection view now automatically filtering to your favorite variants in the deck edit mode and Russian language support added. Some new sounds and visual effects have also been added for certain cards and locations.

marvel snap patch notes january 2023

One really nice improvement is that when cards or locations take a long time to resolve, the game just fast-forwards to the outcome. Some of y’all like bouncing effects off well-synergized cards and now we won’t have to go and cook a burrito while we wait for the turn to wrap up.

Of course, a new update also brings nerfs and buffs. I’ll let you scope the details yourself, but the buff list includes Drax, Groot, Hazmat, Black Cat, and Nakia. The nerf bat victims this time are Nova, Leader, Aero, and Galactus. My condolences to anyone who built their decks around those cards. I will still use you, Richard Rider!

Those are the most exciting bits, but there’s also a huge list of bug fixes and other tweaks that you can look over on the game’s website if you’re that-way inclined. It’s nice to see the team committed to trying to keep things balanced and fun for all players, even if I am flabbergasted that Sunspot has not yet been nerfed. Maybe next time!

‘Archero’, ‘Stardew Valley’, ‘Toy Blast’, ‘PUBG Mobile’, and More – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Well, we’re still sort of waiting on the ol’ update machine to get rolling properly this year. I’ve had to do some digging and allow a few guests in the doors that I’d normally send home, but we got there in the end. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

    Angry Birds Reloaded,

There’s a new batch of levels to play in Angry Birds Reloaded, with thirty new tests of your pig-popping prowess. They’ve named this episode Daft Piggies, and as the description refers to glow sticks and crowds I can only assume this is a Daft Punk reference. That’s a bit of a random thing to name an episode after, but maybe this is the development team’s way of coping with the band splitting up a couple years ago. Well, I suppose the pretense doesn’t really matter much in the end.

    LEGO® Star Wars™: Castaways,

The last update to this game brought in a Star Wars Holiday Special event, and now this one brings in an Attack of the Clones event. We’re really hitting the highlights of the series here. Maybe The Rise of Skywalker next month? There’s also a new Photo Booth feature that works more or less how think it would work, and some new Hippodrome Trials have been added for those who like to bang their head against those.

    Solitaire Stories,

Solitaire Stories is probably the most frequently-updating Apple Arcade game, if one was inclined to chart such things. This latest version brings back an old event in remixed form with Party Time Remix. After that, there are a couple of brand-new events to look forward to. Kicking off tomorrow is Wuthering Heights, and it’s based on exactly what the title says. A couple weeks down the road, we’ve got an event commemorating the Year of the Rabbit as the Lunar New Year draws near. A fine enough excuse to play some solitaire.

    PUBG MOBILE, Free

PUBG Mobile has a new mode to enjoy called Martial Showdown, which is apparently dedicated to “eastern martial arts”. Well, okay. I think you’ll find that despite what movies have taught you, punches and kicks rarely win against guns. Some new skills have been added, along with a new weapon and a new vehicle. There are other things in here, but I’ll let you dive in and check out the details on your own. As I often do. Classic Shaun.

    WHAT THE GOLF?,

I think this update is from a few weeks back, but it’s New Year-themed and I need more of that stuff today. So here it is. It’s a New Year’s event, and some bug fixes. I know if I’m going to dig into older updates I should probably find some really good stuff, but sometimes I just want to drop a silly golf game in here that has a topical event going on. It’s my party, and I can do what I want. Except make people come to the party. Tragic, really.

    AFK Arena, Free

Ah, old reliable AFK Arena. Always there with an update to talk about when we need one. As always, we’ve got a new character here. Dimensional Hero Mulan – The Iron Magnolia joins the game, and for a limited time you can pick her up for half the usual price. There’s also new skins for Wu Kong – The Monkey King and Haelus – The Crafter, plus some new events, features, and locations. There’s a ton more in this update, genuinely more than I could list here even if I was that-way inclined. So do that thing I recommended you do with the update up there. Classic Classic Shaun.

World of Tanks Blitz – 3D War, Free

There have been some really unusual cross-over events for World of Tanks Blitz, but I certainly didn’t see a Terminator 2 event coming. Actually, I don’t know if it’s strictly Terminator 2. It might be a general Terminator thing. So maybe you can get things from Terminator, Terminator 2, Terminator 3, Terminator 3-2, Terminator 3-3, or Terminator 3-4? I don’t know. I assume James Cameron is handling this one personally, as it’s not like he’s busy with anything else at the moment.

    Stardew Valley, $4.99

It’s been a couple years since the last update to Stardew Valley, but the developer has been hard at work on the fancy-pants 1.5 update that we are looking at here. It’s getting the coveted UMMSotW award for this week, naturally. You get a new region to explore, a new mining area, some new end-game content, new characters, tons of new items, and a whole lot more. You even get nine new music tracks! I’m not sure anyone needed an excuse to fire up Stardew Valley again, but if you did need one, here you go.

    Toy Blast, Free

Here’s our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week, and it’s Toy Blast. Classic Classic Classic Shaun. You get fifty new levels to play as usual, with some kind of nonsense about Granny Rhino falling asleep and her punk grandchild trying to wake her up because he’s a hooligan or something. Her grandchild’s name is Mister, by the way. Which is a pretty odd name to name your kid, but who am I to judge? My name is Shaun. Not even Classic Shaun. Just Shaun.

    Archero, Free

Sure, this will do. Archero has an update that hit on New Year’s Eve, and I’m seeing now from the notes that a lot of the things in it are brought over from a previous update. But I’m committed now, so here we go. There are new chapters to play, a new Relic system, some new expedition stages, and more. There have also been some balance adjustments, bug fixes, and all of that stuff. The usual things. The important things. Let’s hope next week is a little spicier.

‘Stardew Valley’ 1.5 for Mobile Has Finally Launched on iOS and Android, More Updates Coming Soon – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Over the weekend, the massive Stardew Valley ($4.99) version 1.5 update hit iOS and Android. It was supposed to release before the end of 2022, but was pushed a bit. Stardew Valley 1.5 brings in tons of new content including new end game content, quality of life features, the ability to move beds, a new Beach Farm, advanced game options, and a lot more. Following its release, the first bug fix update went live as well. Read the patch notes here. Another update is being submitted soon to fix more issues. I’m glad to see the update finally arrive. Creator Eric Barone also mentions that this is quite a re-write for the game on mobile and it should allow for quicker updates like for version 1.6.

If you run into any issues with this update, you can report them here. Eric Barone is also working on Haunted Chocolatier, which is a brand new game I’m looking forward to playing on Steam Deck until it eventually comes to mobile. Read our original review of Stardew Valley if you haven’t gotten it yet. We even featured it as our Game of the Week. If you don’t already own it, you can buy it on the App Store for iOS here and for Android here on Google Play. If you own a Nintendo Switch and an iOS device, I compared both versions of the game to help you find the best platform to play it on. Here’s our forum thread on the game for more discussion. What do you think of Stardew Valley version 1.5 so far if you updated over the weekend and has it been running well for you?

  • Unique Match-3 Puzzler ‘Six Match’ Updated To Go Premium With New Puzzle Mode, UI, and Controller Support – TouchArcade

Unique Match-3 Puzzler ‘Six Match’ Updated To Go Premium With New Puzzle Mode, UI, and Controller Support – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

There are tons of match-3 puzzlers on mobile, but Aaron Steed’s Six Match ($2.99) was one that caught my eye a few years ago. It blended in the traditional match-3 mechanics with sliding puzzles and cards. I liked the aesthetic a lot when I played it. Today, it got its first update in four years to change the monetization and bring in new content. Six Match is now a premium game priced at $2.99 rather than a free game. Ads, in app purchases, and leaderboards have been removed as of today’s update. In terms of new content, it now has controller support, a new puzzle mode, UI improvements, dice coins, and more.

While the removal of leaderboards is unfortunate, I’m glad to see it updated with an aim to remain accessible for a long time and help with future updates as indicated in the App Store changelog for Six Match. Six Match is also available on itch.io and those versions were also updated. Head over to our old forum thread for Six Match here. You can buy Six Match on the App Store for iOS here for $2.99. Have you played Six Match before or will you be buying it with today’s update?

Ride On, Episode XOXO, Illustrated, and Squiggle Drop Arrive on Apple Arcade This Month – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Apple has revealed (via GodisaGeek) the new games coming to Apple Arcade this month. The highlight is definitely Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On () from Pokemon developer Game Freak. Pocket Card Jockey is one of the best 3DS eShop exclusives. Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On releases on January 20th. I’m definitely interested in playing this when it releases later in the month. As of now, the links aren’t live, but they will be in the next few hours. Check out a screenshot from the game below.

In addition to Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On, BorderLeap is bringing Illustrated . I loved Patterned from them, so will be checking this jigsaw meets word puzzle game out when it arrives on January 13th. Developer Pocket Gems is bringing the interactive storytelling game Episode XOXO to Apple Arcade this Friday. The final new game of the month is Noodlecake’s Squiggle Drop featuring more than 100 puzzles. This has players trying to build up Squiggletown by unlocking buildings and more upgrades. We will have forum threads for the games soon, and I will update this with the links when the threads are up. For all Apple Arcade related things, check out our dedicated Apple Arcade forum for discussion on the service and every game included here. What do you think of 2022’s releases on Apple Arcade and today’s announcements?

  • Journey to the Savage Land in the Latest ‘Marvel Snap’ Season – TouchArcade

Journey to the Savage Land in the Latest ‘Marvel Snap’ Season – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

It’s a new year, but for Marvel Snap (Free) the more important thing is that it’s a new month. Most Seasons in Marvel Snap run for about one month, and that means it’s time for the Power Cosmic to make its exit and more terrestrial oddities to step into the spotlight. We’re heading to the Savage Land, and you’d best watch your step because pretty much everything bites.

The new card for this season is Zabu, Kazar’s trusty sabretooth tiger friend. Zabu is a 3-Cost and 2-Power card with an Ongoing effect that makes all 4-Cost cards cost 2 less to play. That naturally makes him go great with Kazar, but cards like Spider-Man, Jessica Jones, and Thing will benefit as well. Like all new cards, Zabu is only available for the time being via the $9.99 Season Pass, which will also reward you with new Variants, Card Backs, Icons, and more.

There are five new locations coming in as well. The Rickety Bridge can only hold one card, destroying all others at the end of the turn. The Altar of Death will destroy cards placed on it, giving you +2 Energy in the next turn. Eternity Range adds a Rock to the losing player’s side after turn 3. Plunder Castle can only have 6-Cost cards played on it. The Collapsed Mine is filled with Rocks, and you can only destroy them by skipping a turn.

Naturally, there are also some new Series 5 cards. Some of them really fit the theme, too. Sauron is a 3-Cost, 3-Power card with an On Reveal ability that removes all abilities from Ongoing cards in your hand and deck. Hm. Shanna the She-Devil is a 4-Cost, 2-Power card that has an On Reveal ability which adds a random 1-Cost card to each location. Dazzler is 4-Cost and 4-Power, with an Ongoing ability that gives her +6 Power if you have four cards at each location. Finally, Shadow King is a 4-Cost, 3-Power card whose On Reveal ability sets all cards at the location to their base Power. Hm, lots of 4-Cost cards there for Zabu to synergize with.

That’s the lot for this time, friends. The Savage Land has a lot of cool stuff that could potentially change up a lot of strategies. Those locations make me think destruction decks are going to stay popular for a while, though. I’m just happy to see Zabu in the game. More Marvel Pets, please! Lucky the Pizza Dog for life!

  • ‘Township’, ‘Sonic Dash’, ‘Lunar’, ‘Minion Rush’, and More – TouchArcade

‘Township’, ‘Sonic Dash’, ‘Lunar’, ‘Minion Rush’, and More – TouchArcade

    [ad_1]

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. And since it’s the first edition of the year, there isn’t a whole lot. What can I say? Developers take holidays too. Still, I’ve found enough to fill out an article for you to chew on. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

    Minion Rush: Running game, Free

I find it interesting that at a certain point this game just whole-butt dropped the Despicable Me part of the title and added Running Game instead. Like, Minions are clearly bigger than the series they spun out of now, so it’s more critical to inform players that this is a running game. Anyway, this new version has a couple of new Special Missions to work on, and two new Costumes to collect. One is a snake suit, the other is a holiday-themed outfit. Oh, and you can buy Costumes from the Wardrobe using real money now. Let’s hear it for options?

    Star Traders: Frontiers, $3.99

It’s been a long while since I included Star Traders: Frontiers in these articles, but don’t take that to mean that it stopped updating. Nothing can stop the Trese Brothers from updating. The heat death of the universe itself will not stop them. Indeed, there were two updates in the last week. For the most part, they cover things like balance adjustments, UI tweaks, and some bug fixes. The game is still regularly getting new bits of content here and there, though. Still a great game to play in 2023.

    Township, Free

Lots of puzzle games this week. Really, can’t be helped. At any rate, this is a usual Playrix game update with some new story content to play, new characters to meet, and lots of puzzle-solving to take on. There’s also some Lunar New Year content rolling out with some new skins, and what looks to be some early Valentine’s Day content that is themed around love. Really getting ahead on your work there, Playrix. Probably not the worst idea.

    Merge Mansion, Free

Well, like I said, lots of puzzle games this week. Suspicious Granny apparently survived the holidays, so look forward to another year of sketchy behavior from her. There’s a new Conservatory area being released soon, the Piggy Bank can be merged to a higher level, and there are some new music tracks and sound effects that may already be packed away for the season by the time you read this. Such is how things go sometimes.

    Temple Run 2, Free

Look, I’ll confess: a lot of today’s updates are from very early last week. But this one is fresh and hot, out of the oven today. This game is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, and I’d imagine there will be some fun stuff connected to that. Scarlett Fox has some new gear, new treasure, and some new allies that you’ll encounter this month. There are also plenty of rewards to earn by playing Global Challenges.

    Gardenscapes, Free

Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I’ve taken out my tiny mallet and broken the glass on the emergency Two Playrix Updates in One Article box we keep here at TouchArcade Towers. In this update: Fireworks! Pharaoh curses! A chef’s old recipes! And Austin tries his hand at a new career in the Animation Studio?! Well, that all sounds utterly fascinating. Austin, buddy. You’re a butler. You’ve pretty much got it made. Don’t trade that in to work in the turbulent animation industry.

    tint.,

Only a couple of Apple Arcade updates this week, but let’s have a look at them and see what we’ve got. Hmm, it’s looking short and sweet by the looks of it. You’ve got twenty new levels to play in Book VII, and finishing them will unlock a new achievement. There are also a bunch of new pages in the Zen Book. Technically I think this update was from the week before last, but it’s thin gruel this week. We’re taking what we can get.

Lunar Silver Star Story Touch, $9.99

Four and a half years since its last update of any kind, and over eight years since its last update that involved more than just bug fixes, Lunar has received a major update. Like… I can’t even go into everything in this update because there is so much. Lucky thing I’m writing a separate news story about this, then. Go check that out if you want the details. For now, I’ll just give this the coveted UMMSotW award for the week and move along to the next game.

    Garden Tails: Match and Grow,

And here’s the other Apple Arcade update for this week’s article. It’s another puzzle game! I did say we had a lot of them today, and I mean to deliver on that promise. So here is what you get in this update: the new Spiny Forest, complete with new animals and a new story to enjoy. A spiffy new home screen, some new story icons, that kind of thing. Some general visual tweaks. You know how it goes.

    Sonic Dash+,

One promise I refuse to keep is that promise about there only being a couple of Apple Arcade updates. That’s right, there’s one more here. Both the standard free-to-play Sonic Dash and its Apple Arcade + version received updates that bring in characters from the brand-new Sonic Prime series. Tails Nine and Rusty Rose are the first ones dashing in from that series, but I’m sure we’ll see more from there over time.
