    I’m not going to lie, the latest generation of AI, especially large language models and agentic AI, is nothing short of impressive. At Human Cloud, we used tools like Claude and Windsurf to accomplish in 5 minutes what had previously taken us 5 years.

    On the surface, it’s a story of overnight magic. But dig deeper and you’ll find that the real magic wasn’t the AI itself; it was the five years of groundwork that came before. We spent that time using spreadsheets, Canva graphics, CRM automations and hacky off-the-shelf tools to create the right sales and delivery motion, and validate our customers’ needs.

    Only then did the AI become a true accelerator, as we used Claude, Windsurf and AWS to create the Human Cloud Platform in less than 5 minutes.

    This brings up a crucial point. AI can easily be a distraction, prioritizing hype and buzz over real revenue and profitability. Why? Because the fundamental principle of business remains unchanged: every breakthrough starts with a deep understanding of what your customers need.

    Before you invest another dollar in AI, ask yourself one question: Is this technology making us closer to our customers, or pulling us further away?

    Here are five steps to ensure AI helps you get closer.

    1. Manually implement before automating

    “Do things that don’t scale” is a famous startup moniker brought up by Paul Graham, co-founder of Y Combinator, in his essay in 2013. As a 4x founder myself, this ethos has always run true.

    In the case of AI, in every scenario, ask yourself if there is a manual alternative. If there is, try that first, then automate based on customer demand.

    2: Capture enough manual feedback

    Step 1 is only half the story. The other half is ensuring you have enough of the right type of feedback to automate what really works. My strongest recommendation is to capture feedback that’s closest to customers actually paying, engaging and sharing.

    I learned this the hard way in a former startup. We spent 3 months listening and iterating on prototypes based on feedback. We were maniacal in the level of detail we captured, from the user experience to the design. Then we launched, and less than 5% of these users actually paid. Instead, we shouldn’t have listened to what they said, but instead prioritized what they did.

    3: Make AI accessible for everyone, not just AI experts

    Rather than investing in an AI team or hiring AI experts, give everyone an opportunity to apply AI across their team and their work.

    Preston Mossman, Senior Director of AI Consulting for Galaxy Square, told me, “learning to use AI is a muscle you have to build. A lot of people self-select out because they can’t use AI today to help them, but the first step is to accelerate their comfort and understanding in a way that feels valuable to them.”

    When asking Preston about ways companies have helped their leaders get comfortable with it, he brought up investing in AI-related tools for interested individuals.

    In his words, “if your mechanic told you about a $50 wrench that could get your job done just as well for half the cost, you would buy it for them or find a new mechanic (with the $50 wrench).”

    Leaders not using AI in 5 years will be like leaders not using a computer today.

    4: Hire independent experts first

    Telling someone to use AI with no support is like telling someone to jump out of a plane without a parachute.

    Obviously, hiring AI experts as full-time employees would be expensive and out of reach for most of us. Likewise, AI trainings take time, might be expensive, and rarely has direct applicability from training to application.

    But a shortcut is hiring individuals who already use AI, as 65% of independent experts were already using AI as far back as 2024, and 95% of independent experts stated that AI makes them more competitive.

    AI bots like ChatGPT or Google’s Bard primarily sparked the current buzz surrounding AI. Both of these AI bots are conversational AIs. Both have shown to have extensive ability to generate content quickly. Savvy marketers know that content plays a significant factor in converting potential clients and helping drive you up the Google rankings.

    Some marketing professionals use Bard and ChatGPT to transform how they generate content internally. VentureBeat’s editorial director Michale Nuñez recently disclosed that his team is using AI to assist in content generation. The exact details of the full scope of AI-generated content were not fully explained.

    Deep conversations regarding its ethical framework are emerging with the prevalence of AI-generated content. Concerns regarding plagiarism and misinformation are among the most common points of contention. Is it ethical to eliminate the human element associated with written content? How deep is the oversight on this content before it’s published? Can AI show an inherent bias?

    The debate on the ethical ramifications is still ongoing and unclear. However, this is not stopping many marketers from dipping their toes into the pool. Beyond Google Bard, the company wants to integrate AI assistance into general searches.

    Google has been very active in looking to integrate AI into more aspects of its services beyond Bard. In the company’s own words, they are “supercharging” searches. Through the integration of generative AI, Google is working to simplify searching; one way is by suggesting questions related to the topic.

    Currently, Google is allowing users to experiment with AI in searches. Upon searching a term in the experimental new system, users are given the option for AI to suggest content based on their inquiry.

    If a potential client were to look up a search term like “How much does a personal injury lawyer cost,” they would likely see a list of local PI attorneys optimizing for that content. The AI-empowered may suggest an inquiry like “How much does a PI attorney charge?”

    The AI bot will pull a snippet from a website with relevant inquiry to the search and attempt to answer the question without users having to click the link. In this case, it will be pertinent regarding the cost of attorneys. However, they are encouraged to follow the link if the inquiry is sufficient or need additional information.

    For marketers working in the legal field, this is especially interesting. Take, for example, a search for a local personal injury lawyer. In the trial, we tested this by searching for a PI lawyer near me. The AI suggested a handful of local attorneys and a follow-up question for the inquiry, which would offer more content.

    Some marketers may question how different this is compared to already existing searches? In short, they’re different. Comparing a search of the same topic in the AI-recommended environment versus the standard search shows two different results in the featured snippet and several ranking pages for the search term.

    This isn’t always the case, though. Searching for “PI lawyers near me” in the AI search generated similar results from the traditional search, which featured the Map Pack at the top.

    There is concern about whether an AI-powered bot can decipher content to determine fact or fiction. The more these new AI-powered tools are used, the more they will learn and grow.

    Factual, informative, and educational content may be critical if AI prioritizes learning. The best advice for creating high-converting content may be to write from an expert point of view.

    Si estás terminando la preparatoria o pensando cursar una carrera o un posgrado, la pregunta obligada es, ¿qué estudio? Aunque esa pregunta la deberías de responder usando la cabeza, el corazón y tu intuición (recuerda que es fundamental elegir algo que te guste), le preguntamos a ChatGPT que no ayudara en el proceso de elegir una carrera.

    We’re on the cusp of a technological revolution not seen since the dotcom boom of the ’90s. Microsoft and Google are racing to launch competing products based on the tech driving it. All that’s left is for smaller startups to rebrand themselves to ride the hype and boom! We’ve landed ourselves in a bubble.

    Everyone who was around during the NFT golden era of 2021 knows exactly where I’m going with this. The hype surrounding OpenAI’s generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is giving us all a dose of deja vu. Luckily, there are key differences between the AI paradigm shift we’re currently experiencing and the NFT bubble from a year and a half ago.

    It’s crucial to separate fact from fiction and ensure AI innovators seize on this moment to push the boundaries of the technology efficiently and ethically.

    The technology itself

    While we can draw lessons from the NFT boom of 2021, from a strictly technological standpoint, ChatGPT simply blows the Ethereum wallet on which you store NFT jpegs out of the water.

    We’re talking about a complex Language Learning Model (LLM) that digests massive quantities of text data and infers relationships between words within the text. Essentially, LLMs fill in the blank with the most statistically probable word given the surrounding context — and ChatGPT is doing this on a scale never seen before to write poems, movies and essays.

    Conversely, NFTs are stored on blockchain-based wallets to represent digital ownership over a particular asset — whether digital or physical. This could be a painting, a car or a meme. So the “NFT technology” we’re talking about is really just code for “blockchain.”

    That’s not to downplay the potential of blockchain, and particularly NFTs, to solve the digital ownership problem. For example, a world in which musicians regain the ability to own and sell their music online sounds promising for creators who have drawn the shorter stick in the democratization of information spurred by the internet. It does mean, however, that its potential to radically transform industries was massively exaggerated by many of the companies selling themselves as “Metaverse” and “NFT” platforms. And it’s certainly limited when compared with the potential of AI.

    After years of determination, blockchain enthusiasts are still trying to find a use case that will spark mass adoption. Sure, some average people invest in bitcoin and bought NFTs in 2021. But compare that to the number of offices that started using ChatGPT days after its launch, and we have a clear winner.

    The challenges ahead

    It’s a lot harder to convincingly “fake” being an AI company. The blockchain industry is so intentionally confusing that companies in 2021 were trying to pass off digital art that wasn’t even blockchain-based as “NFTs,” and standard Play-to-Earn (P2E) games were adding “Metaverse” to their messaging.

    That simply won’t be a problem for AI. Instead, the AI industry has more serious challenges with which to contend. Companies across virtually every industry will integrate and build on top of ChatGPT and other successful generative AI tools, finding new and interesting use cases for them.

    For that to happen, AI innovators will have to spot ChatGPT’s flaws and leverage its strengths. Dr. Michal Tzuchman-Katz, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer at Kahun Medical, points to the improvements an AI model like ChatGPT would need to make a dent in healthcare and better serve doctors. The company built an AI tool that “thinks like a doctor” and offers doctors clinical intake before patient visits.

    While ChatGPT might be able to make textual interaction with patients smoother, it can’t think clinically like Kahun, which consults with its own database of peer-reviewed medical literature to produce responses and traces back to its originating sources.

    ChatGPT, on the other hand, produces answers based on comparing the user’s input with the input of thousands of others and isn’t as transparent regarding its sources. That’s a problem for other industries, too. There’s talk about students using ChatGPT to write essays and answer homework questions. But professional journalists and authors won’t be able to utilize the model beyond ideation and outline building if it can’t cite its sources thoroughly enough.

    And then there’s the bias problem. Conservative commentators have reveled in tweeting about examples of ChatGPT showing an obvious left-leaning bias. AI more broadly is also riddled with racial bias. Finding a solution to this will be one of the biggest challenges AI innovators face in expanding the technology’s use.

    As far as accuracy, we can, of course, expect ChatGPT to improve quite rapidly. The goal going forward for AI innovators is to take part in its expansion and improve upon it. Adding a transparency layer and tackling the bias problem will be key to ensuring it becomes more ethical and practical overall.
